How Do You Say Goodbye?

how-do-you-say-goodbye

A dear friend of mine had a cat that had fallen ill. I t had a rare disease that is usually only seen in dogs, Terriers to be exact. It is so rare that they only had canine meds for it!

I felt so bad when my friend told me of this misfortune. I felt even sadder when I was told that there is a surgery to correct the problem but that it cost $900 and my friend was broke.

I think the saddest part was knowing that this poor cat was only a year and a half old. I wanted so much to be able to help but I do not have that kind of money.

My friend told me that his family rejected him and disowned him when he “came out”. He got the cat as a way of having something to love and love back since he lost his family.

I found out the other day he put her down. He couldn’t stand the pain and suffering that she was going through.

Of all the people I have met I felt unusually sad for him. he is a very close friend and he has helped me to understand my sexuality issues. I treasure the comfort I received from him when I first met him. I had “come out” only 2 days before. I only wish there was a way to ease him into saying goodbye.

I know it isn’t easy to let go but I do know that in my heart he is a good man with a great heart and a helping hand to all who need it. I am sure he will get through it as he helped me get through a difficult time in my life.
