Stereotypically Me

stereotypically-me

What’s that coming down the assembly line? Oh, it’s Tina… put her in the “femme” bucket… shall we?

Femme because I can’t leave the house without my makeup? Femme because I wear a push-up bra? Femme because I picture myself on my (hopefully someday soon) wedding day wearing a big lacey gown? Why am I called “femme”, anyway?

There are plenty o’women “femmier” than I am. I wear no dresses (except for the aforementioned bridal attire). I wear baseball caps on the weekend. I’m a jeans and sweatshirts kinda gal.

So who put me here? The world did.. that’s who.

I have no desire to cut my hair short for “easy mornings”. I have no intention of blacklisting Revlon or Cover Girl. I will never EVER be good at softball (though I did try for one season recently, umm, yeah.. I’m cheerleader material for sure).

My thoughts on stereotypes are this… in days past, in general, the gays and lesbians that the world knew of were either big flamers or bull dykes; those of us who couldn’t, or didn’t care to, hide their orientation. Those of us “everyday-could-be-anyone” folk were (and still are, in my opinion) in the shadows… and I must say, I like hiding in the shadows… I can assess people’s true nature BEFORE I drop the bomb that I like lookin’ at the ladiez… ;)

All in all, I’m not a fan of stereotypes, but they do serve their purpose to some degree. After all, it’s the basis for our “gaydar”, is it not? Of course, we’ve fine-tuned it to pick up even the most minute of stereotypical behavior/attributes.

On the other hand, I don’t like to believe that there are a slew of other lesbians… just… like… me. I’d like to think I’m an individual… so though my human nature does tend to cause me to label people… my “fight-the-power” side says it just ain’t right…

And that’s pretty much that. :)

Lesbian Quotes

Men often say, ‘Women! Who could ever understand them?’ Don’t ask a lesbian for the answer. All you’ll get is a sympathetic nod.” — Joanne Brigden
