The Thing about Lesbians is …..
we are all different, the thing that we have in common is that we are wimmin who love womyn.
When I saw this topic, I knew I had to comment. People get so into stereotypes. Stereotypes have a purpose, just like labels do, but they are not the whole picture. I have always explained the LGBT community to those who aren’t a part of it by saying that we are no different than society at large…..we have our bad apples and we have our (s)heros and we have everything inbetween, we just happen to have affectional preferences for the same gender.
The reality is that we are different and the same and we live in a world that does not value differences.
I was lucky as a child, I grew up with a mother who valued differences, and taught us to value them as well. I tried to pass on the same value to my children. But most of the world values sameness more. It’s like society is stuck in adolesence when the most important thing is to not be different, not to stand out.
The thing about lesbians is that we love women, wimmin, womyn; emotionally, physically, socially, sexually, spiritually.
The thing about lesbians is that we love wimmin.
