The Thing About Lesbians is….We Are All Individualistic…
The thing about lesbians is that there are so many different types. Most of the differences are stereotypical labels and I’m not trying to categorize, but many people can’t walk the aisles of Wal-Mart without the gaydar pinging sometime. Then what do you do? You think, “Oh, there’s a lezzie,” but how do you really know? What makes that ‘dar so sure? It’s the judgments in your mind… You look at the hair, the clothes, the nails, the way she walks, her voice, etc. You scan the said lesbian in your mind with the typical characteristics. How are those characteristics defined? Butch, femme, boi, dyke, bull-dyke, dykes on bikes…and the list goes on. The truth is; however, that it doesn’t matter about the images that lesbians are portrayed as because many who look a certain way don’t necessarily inherit the mannerisms of that particular genre.
Take me and my girlfriend for example. I’m “femme,” she’s “soft butch.” I like motorcycles, mud-bogging with 4 wheelers, rock-climbing, wrestling (and winning), martial arts, and scuba diving. I’ve caught myself surprised at this because WHAT?! God forbid a butch who isn’t ALL butchie, or a lipstick-lesbian that can kick your ass. But that is what we are…and we defy stereotypes. Our gay counterparts have already labeled us as “tops or bottoms.” Little do they know that I can strap one on and rock my “butchie’s” world…or that it doesn’t matter if they think I’m a top or bottom because yeah I like it and give it all ways….top, bottom, sideways, doggie, *insert imagination here*…the point is that as long as my girl wants to please or be pleased I am ready for whatever pleasure she chooses.
I’ll bet anything that in every relationship a stereotype is defied. That’s such a damn good thing too because that gives us a balance. Cause see….the thing about lesbians is that we love them and that’s all that really matters.
