Opening the door and peeking in…

opening-the-door-and-peeking-in

Well I better get writing now I’m here! I hope you don’t mind me giving the religion a miss and getting straight right into the introductions. I arrived at TLL having found my blog blogrolled here. I emailed Goldstardyke and here I am!

I’m a 35 year old Irish Dyke living in Dublin. Disabled and lefty with added chilli. I have been active in queer and disability politics and organisations over the years. Now I am taking a break from a PhD and looking for a job. I help run a forum for lesbian and bisexual women mainly from Ireland but we have a few international members. SapphicIreland is a work in progress but is currently the fastest growing internet message board for women in Ireland. (We are looking for a webmistress to help develop the rest of the site, if anyone is stupid enough, sorry I mean kind enough, to volunteer email me!) There are very few womens groups in Ireland so a few of us have developed this virtual space for women of all ages and backgrounds to take part. It is a mix of information, politics, sex, history and downright nonsense.

I am interested in lesbian culture and subculture, health and social issues in particular and look forward to sharing views on the specificities of lesbian living wherever we’re from. I follow US politics closely and read far too many blogs on a daily basis. My own blog is still young and is a mixture of international and Irish political commentary, a little bit of food blogging and some sport too. I live with my partner of 9 years, and we are ruled by a dog and a kitten. I am a golf widow but am very interested in the politics of sport including golf. So that’s it for the moment, I look forward to taking part in TLL and developing my writing skills. That was part of the reason for getting blogging in the first place. I am somewhat visually impaired amongst other challenges and the written word had become scary of late but its getting more friendly!
