TLL Author Spotlight: Tell readers about you. Who are you and what brought you to TLL?

I perform with a youth theatre company called YGLAM. In our last performance I did a physical piece behind a projection screen and retold this piece of writting as I took my top and bra off and then bound my breasts:-

“I am finally beginning to find out who she really is; someone neither male nor female, butch nor femme, strong nor weak. I’m discovering the power of being unique and unfazed by the sterotypes placed upon me by society and the GLBTIQ community. I am becoming a canvas for who I am within, and finally able to own my body for the first time in my life.

I want to be secure and confident in who I am and where I am going. I want to stand up and be seen, to speak my mind and express who I am and what I feel. I will be known and I will find my path. I want to ask to be heared, no longer the listener but the one seeking help.

I have ink on my skin, piercings, scars and an accent. I have another identity, his name is Alex. I am now who I seem at all.”

I am a dyke who has travelled a lot; born in Engalnd and went to live with her grandparents who brough her to Italy, back to England and then Australia. I knew I was a dyke when I chased the girls in kinder and later played boyfriend and girlfriend with a friend when we were seven. By 13 I developed a crush on a high school girl which the whole school later found out about, and by the time I came to Oz and entered Year 10 I was out to a new school.

I bind and dress like a boy but don’t deny I have breasts. I wear singlets and bra’s, and other times I dress how I feel (sometimes girly). I perform as a drag king, work as a youth worker and live with my gran. I have a gf of 15mths and quite a few ex’s who on’t talk to me because I broke their hearts. I suffer from anxiety which drives my gf’s crazy, and is often the reason why we end up breaking up.

My favourite pair of jeans are baggy yet showw of my butt which people often like to give a squeeze. I own a ‘King Vic rag King’ top which I love to wear with a long sleeve shirt underneath. I still have my broken and worn 5yr old Doc’s and a 6yr old pair of velcro blue Sketchers. I have a fixed set of ‘fuck me bands’ on my right wrist while the left sports a leather cuff which I bought in Sydney during the 2003 Mardi Gras. I only have silver earrings although I have the odd wooden ear spear and eyebrow bar for a few holes. I never leave the house without my Emily Strange wallet that my gf bought, or my necklace and rings.

I love piercings but have stopped at my navel, nipple and ears – mainly due to my gran not approving. I have one tattoo but hope for more, perhaps stars on my shoulder/arms. I am inspired by Ani DiFranco, Mel Watson from the band FRUIT, and Lyndell Montgomery from Ember Swift (although she more of a perv).

I love to write written rambles, which are a cross between creative writing / blogging / poetry, and created a livejournal account as well as contributing to zines and posting some of my stories and poetry online and on my web-page. I can’t remember how I found this site (The Lesbian Lifestyle) but I thought it would be the best place to share these written rambles of mine with people who do the same. I get busy sometimes and don’t get the opportunity to write as much as I would like, and often I get the creative urge when least appropriate (in bed half-asleep, while I am driving to work and am without paper, or when I am out and being busy like).

Well i think that sort of describes who I am…
