I am gay, therefore I am

i-am-gay-therefore-i-am

Have I been asked why am I gay? Astonishingly, I was confronted by a lesbian with this question. Having amused me with her various opinions on life for the pass hours, what came out of her mouth shouldn’t have surprised me at all. Honesty was the only reply: I am gay, therefore I am. What more did she need to know? If that couldn’t satisfy her, I was prepared to give her a through and through history of human sexuality (being a history major [yes, I am very proud of that], I am capable of giving out lengthy monologue). Yet, having seen that dozed look on her face, I figured it would be a waste of time anyway. It was mid-winter, better off saving my breath in order to keep myself warm.

My sexuality has never been a problem with me. There was no inner torment nor self-hatred. The entire idea of being gay is just another aspect of my identity. It is as natural and acceptable as the natural color of my hair. I never pondered nor agonized over the fact that society deems people like me as abnormal. In fact, it is their own ignorance that caused so much trouble. I am at no fault nor am I responsible for others’ stupidity. Explain I will do to the best of my ability, but would people like her rather listen or not is entirely up to them.

Lesbian Quotes

My mother took me to a psychiatrist when I was fifteen because she thought I was a latent homosexual. There was nothing latent about it. — Amanda Bearse
