Family
(topic two? of this month)
As I scan my other entires, I laugh. Each of them has to do with my little family, my little team of people that I’m related too. Surely I could pick something else this month, right? No. I can give the excuse that I’m too young for sex toys (just you wait ’till I’m eighteen…) and poetry isn’t something I enjoy, but those would be excuses. I could do something creative with both, if I tried.
In reality, I jump at the chance, each and every time, to write about my family because they are the most important people in my life. As a fifteen year old, this may be strange for some to grasp — isn’t she supposed to hate her family with ever fiber of her being? Well. I did. Nothing strange there. But, now…now that everything has changed, everything’s been thrown upside down, I live for my family.
I have two aunts and two uncles (on my mother’s side. My father was an only child), plus their spouses and children. Diane, Linda, Herbie, and Tommy, and my mother, but she doesn’t count, I suppose. Before January 23rd, 2005, I would groan at the prospect of a family party. Now, now that I’m living here, in this little town near New Hampshire that I can easily call heaven on earth, it’s different. I want to go, more than my aunt or uncle, whom I live with, or my sister (she’s thirteen. I guess I should lighten up on the kid), who all gripe and grumble at the thought of another car ride, another social event. I tell them to shut up and get ready to have some fun.
In my family, you can’t go to a party and not laugh. Humor is a big part of who we are, and we all love to laugh. Someone’s always making a joke, or telling a funny story. Your spirits just lift, and you forget about your problems.
Without these people, with special mention to a few, I don’t think I’d be where I am today. Actually, I don’t think I’d be living at all. Family, to me, is a group of people you want to hold tight too. It can be someone you’re related to by blood, or your very best friend.
I’m lucky enough to have a whole circle of them, right at my fingertips.
