CBP.gov: Saving the US from Mexicans one at a time
I just posted this on my blog and think it may be relevant for TLL.
So I’m watching TV today. Watching TV because I can, because I am FREE. I’d rather be going to college, but I don’t have the money. I’d attempt getting a loan, but my credit still isn’t so hot. There was no AP class in public high school that taught you about credit cards. You get them in the mail when you’re 18 and you tend to think it’s a frickin’ party. I thought about trying for a grant or aid, but since I am living back with my parents the state would count their income with mine and I don’t think I’d get a penny.
I was watching TV because I was done working. Working for a company that attempts to make it’s employees believe that “Best Shoring” is the best thing for us. Working for a company that I have to beg to get a raise from. A multi billion dollar company where I am simply a number, but I’m free, and I make the choice to stay there. I do get medical insurance in a free country where many don’t. If I could, I would give it up, I’d split in between all the kids who don’t have it. It’s just that I know it wouldn’t get very far, and you can’t seem to help everyone.
I was watching TV because I’m single. However that seems to be the way to go if you’re gay in America. Were I in love, and wanting to get married, I would have to deal with knowing I can not. The president made that very clear just yesterday. On TV. I wasn’t watching then, but I read about it on-line. I could read about it because I’m free. The men who wrote the constitution wanted to make sure we all were. The president seems to think otherwise. As do many right winged individuals. Many times their thoughts are based on their religious beliefs. I can’t help but wonder if any of the founding fathers were gay. I can’t understand why anyone would deny another the right to love and marry whom they chose. Were I in a relationship I would plead. I love her, I want to spend the rest of my life loving her. Should something happen to me before her, a legal marriage would grant me peace of mind through the years. She is my heart Mr. President, you are breaking people’s hearts.
So on to the point. So full of tangents I am apparently. So on the TV comes a commercial. First I thought it was for some sort of video game or action figure for kids. Then I pay more attention and see it’s an add for the US Customs and Boarder Patrol. I attempted to find the video to no avail, but did manage to snag some pics. They make it look like it’s cowboys and Indians. They make it look like an action adventure. Jesus, they make it look like the next poorly directed Vin Diesel Movie!
I’m not going to pretend that I know all there is about the boarder patrol. I’m sure there is a need for them and what they do on a daily basis is both justified and honest work. I guess I just started to think to myself… What has a Mexican ever done to me? They didn’t attack us, they don’t have terrorists, they didn’t blow a hole in a US Navy ship. All they want is to be free. They want a chance to come to a better place and make a better life. Is it really the immigrants faults that the US’s corporations outsource? Is it their fault that the US can no longer build a good vehicle and therefore my state of Michigan is turning into a ghost town? Has a Mexican killed any of our US troops in Iraq?
Before you argue or call me a big fat dyke bitch, hear me out. I am simply saying that all the money going into spy planes, ATV’s, and cowboy hats could go to so many other places. Education, health-care, AIDS research, and the cure for cancer to name a few. Oh, but on that cure… I’m thinking the drug companies will never let it happen, so lets replace it with the official legalization of marijuana. The Mexicans know all about the Mary Jane. They could raise lucrative farms and sell their crops throughout the nation. The US would be a happier place. Less violence and more money spent on Cheetoos and Taco Bell (No pun intended.)
I’m just one voice among thousands of issues that may never swing my way. But damnit, I don’t believe in guns, but I respect your right to carry one. The whole militia thing in the constitution is a slight bit freaky to me, but so be it. This allowing a person to run for president for 4 years at a time twice is killing this lesbian, but I deal. I say I’m free, but I’m really not. I bitch and complain, but I suppose I don’t have the right to because I’m not doing anything constructive about it. Hell, maybe I should stop watching TV, but then I would miss all the fighting between the guy from the Brady Bunch and the chick from America’s Next Top Model. Their getting married you know. In the last episode he was talking about snipping himself so that they won’t have kids at the wrong time. He has that choice. Take a moment for me and think about all the choices you have and what it would feel like to not have the right to make them.
In closing I know that the world we live in will never be perfect. I know that there will always be two sides and those in the middle that don’t get out and vote. Gays will still be gays and I believe with all my heart that someday we will legally be able to fuck up marriage together just as good as a man and a woman can. As for our neighbors to the south. I’m sorry. Sorry that America feels that we need to make your choices for you. Sorry that we make commercials that depict the people who will take your dreams away as heroes. We need more love. This country is in desperate need of a revolution against all things that conjure hate. So keep on growing that pot my unwanted immigrants, this bitch makes just enough money to afford it!
***And why the Hell did the word “Dyke” get flagged when I spell checked. Damn the man!***
