My Take on the Ex Factor
For me an ex can be an ex that becomes a friend if the love disappears properly. If you hold on to her, if you find yourself still wanting her, if you constantly wonder what could have been, that is when things start to get difficult. My last girlfriend hated that I still spoke with my ex. Convincing her that there was nothing left by way of love between us was hard to do.
We spend years with these women. It has always amazed me the way love can turn into hate and then back to want. Some of us will always have that one that we can never get over. Others will have that one that dispelled their outlook on love. Our ex’s make up part of who we are. Without them there would be pieces of our life missing forever. Pieces that represent mistakes, lessons, and love.
A lover is a lover and a friend is a friend. For most the ideal lover becomes our best friend. Can you let that go? Have you learned why you are no longer together. If you hold on to her will you ever be able to love another woman with all of your heart?
For me there is no specific answer. We try to do what’s best for our hearts, but our hearts don’t always know what’s best for our minds.
