Women in Art

While I enjoyed the video aesthetically I was bothered by the lack of women of color. Are all beautiful women in art white?

missy, there weren’t any fat women, either…is it not possible to just enjoy something for what it IS, and not worry about what it’s NOT?

GG, Yes, it is possible to be complicit and accept the status quo. I did acknowledge that I enjoyed the piece aesthetically. Missy

I think it’s fairly representative of the European classical and modern art, which while not rife with women of color, is representative of the artists used for this piece. And, gg - some of those women are fat–or what I refer to as voluptuous - but we’re only getting face shots.

Being an art major I particularly enjoyed the video. It’s true that during the Renaissance through modern art periods the European masters were, with a couple of exceptions, mostly men and white. They usually painted people of the higher classes, so even the lower class whites for the most part were not depicted in art.

Let art be the one thing without color.

Art in black and white? Never!

No pun intended, right Kelly?

Correct! ;-)

Lesbian Quotes

When you’re in love you never really know whether your elation comes from the qualities of the one you love, or if it attributes them to her; whether the light which surrounds her like a halo comes from you, from her, or from the meeting of your sparks.
