11 Reasons Gay People Should Not Be Allowed To Marry

11-reasons-gay-people-should-not-be-allowed-to-marry
Hot:

Thought I would share this wonderful post from The House of Bone:

1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control.

2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can’t legally get married because the world needs more children.

3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.

5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are property, blacks can’t marry whites, and divorce is illegal.

6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.

7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.

8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

10. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.

11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven’t adapted to things like cars or a longer lifespan.

I thought this would be a good follow up:

Marriage = 1 man + 1 woman

Well…

… unless one happens to be a Biblical Patriarch, in which case marriage equals one man and several women, or even one man, several women and free use of slave girls called concubines.

Or if one happens to be a legendary Israelite King then marriage equals one man and hundreds of women plus slave girls.

Or if one happens to be a Jew up until the tenth century, marriage could mean one man and several wives.

Much the same held in China for century upon century.

Or perhaps one happens to be one of the Toda, then marriage equals several men plus one woman. Or perhaps one is a nomadic Tibetan, then marriage equals two brothers and one woman.

Or maybe one is Kaingang, in which case one has options– one man plus one woman, one man plus several women, several women plus one man, or several men plus several women.

Or maybe one is Nayar, in which case marriage isn’t much about adding at all.

Or in large swathes of the pre-columbian New World, one could opt to marry a berdache.

A soldier in any number of cultures– among them the ancient Greek and the Japanese– could take a younger soldier for a ‘military wife’. The practise still continues in some African cultures, the !Kang, for example.

Really, these “Marriage = One Man + One Woman” people need a lesson in cultural anthropology.

some day people will look back on this day and scratch their heads.

rights for blacks to marry whites could be settled in the courts

rights for gays to marry cannot be settled by the legislature(california)or even by the courts but only by referendum.

if you elect alfred e neuman as president, its not about alfred e neuman, but the people who elected him.

my personal opinion. for whatever reason the american electorate remains one of the most ignorant, the most inept, the most inactive and the most arrogant of the western world.

case in point, we supposedly have the best medical facilities in the world. and when it was disclosed that we had one of the lowest mortality rates………..werent nary a ripple.

why because too deal with it requires socialistic response……..and you know about them thar socialists…….weuns here are capitalists.

and if you were refer to the bible you read the year of jubilee where all debts were canceled and all land was returned to its original owner……………………dahhhhhh.

can it get any worse …you betchum.

Excellent post!

Heh. For the first couple, I was thinking “Is that person really that ridiculous……” Then it got too ridiculous to be possible.

*two cents*
I am against gay “marriage”. Marriage is a sacrament that is between a man and a woman, which is something homosexuals cannot do. I am, however, all for some form of union granting homosexual couples the same rights as heterosexual couples. I don’t know enough about it to know if some sort of union already exists…
*end two cents*

by Bunny on September 14th, 2007 at 6:41 AM

hilarious!

and bunny, unions works just as well so long it is recognised by the law.

*crossing my fingers*

by pamina on February 9th, 2008 at 7:04 AM

Don’t let Bunny off the hook that easily. Really? After reading all this you think that a simple union would be acceptable? It’s a baby step in the right direction. Marriage under the LAW is not a sacrament. By using the term sacrament to distinct hetero from homo relationships, you are insulting us and implying that this would not be a solemn vow, supported by God; thereby showing your gross misinterpretation of the Bible. You’re regurgitating things you’ve heard your whole life, which shows your clear distinction from everyone else who commented on this post. We’ve clearly done some thinking on the subject. You speak with, admittedly limited knowledge on the subject. I’m not telling you to keep your opinions to yourself, but I beg you to please think a little before opening your fat mouth, or rather laying your fat fingers on the keyboard.

On another note: This IS an oldy, but DEFINTELY goody and worth keeping in circulation as long as possible. And Kelly’s addition should ALWAYS be included. Well done!

AND… I just realize that these comments are mostly over a year old… BUT STILL… :)

@Bunny – Plessy v. Ferguson, 163 U.S. 537 (1896), is a landmark United States Supreme Court decision in the jurisprudence of the United States, upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation even in public accommodations (particularly railroads), under the doctrine of “separate but equal”.

Legally it is impossible for homosexuals to get married anyway and always will be, so your article is ridculous as it shows your ignorance towards something that you are evidently so vocal about from the first line.
As somebody else has stated marriage is ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN. It annoys me by the amount of gay couples that say they are getting married, no your not! You are entering into a Civil Partnership, if you were getting married it would be a paradox of the whole ideology of the term “marriage”.
You have civil partnerships deal with it its exactly the same anyway so why moan?
You are being non-conformist by being homosexual yet wanting to be conformist to the hetrosexual tradition of marriage! makes no sense to me.

by bbklt on December 24th, 2008 at 7:40 AM

@bbklt – Please research these things before you flame, dear bbklt. For one thing, gay marriage is legal in at least one state in the United States, and at least three European countries. It is legal in Canada. So please do not say that right to get married will be withheld from gays and lesbians forever. Another thing, no, civil unions are not exactly the same. If they were exactly the same, then it would be called marriage. Finally, being homosexual does not necessarily mean you are non-conformist. Did you ever think that perhaps two people who love each other very much would want to validate their relationship in the eyes of their family, friends, and government? Gender of said persons should be a non-issue.

By the by, I have this list on at least three of my online profiles. I find it very enjoyable.

by Sat-chan on February 26th, 2009 at 6:49 PM

I’m a lesbian who believes that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. I live in Jersey and am happy with the concept of ‘civil union’ as long as it provides the exact same rights, privileges and protections as marriage. THAT is my only concern. Let’s not impose our values on others — as they are trying to do to us.

Ha, I like the sarcasism that comes along with it.

TO BE REALL ALL THIS IS SOME BULL S***. GAY PARENTS WILL RAISE GAY CHILDREN.. BOTH MY PARENTS ARE STRAIGHT AND IM A LESBIAN ND HAVE BEEN FOR A WHILE ITS NOT THE OREINTATION OF YOUR PARENTS IT WAT FITS BEST WITH YOUR CHILD LIFESTYLE AND WHAT MAKES THEM HAPPY

by LESBIAN20 on May 4th, 2009 at 7:12 PM

y do so many people hate on gays n lesbians? I kno some people are against it cuz of religious believes some think it’s gross n some r concerned bout reproductive issues n it just pisses me the fuck off because who are WE (as a society) to determine if two people who r in love shud b able to marry?? Who r we to block the future of two people in love I hate how people stick their noses in stuff that doesn’t concern them… Ok god creates every one equal so we should all have equal rights specially us being in America. Now if your concerned about the future I think we should not be teaching future generations that there is only one way to live and that’s by fallowing the majority. Soo if u think that it’s wrong because they will not be able to reproduce.. Well anser this.. The woman who are born with fertility problems or men who’s sperm won’t make babies for whatever reason… Should they be banned to marry as well? Because they won’t be making babys either. N for those selfish ass people who are agaisnt it because they’re simply grossed out by the guys and not the girl well that’s ur beliefs n I guess we all have to respect that but we all know how childish thAt is. It’s not fair that people have to hide who they reallyy are and who they love bcuz of the pressure society is putting on them .. I just don’t understand how two peoples marriage is going to effect the people who voted agaisnt them.. They are simply trying to be happy and wil not b knocking on ur doors making out or having sex so wats bothering people about this????! I see two gay people n I’m like ok watever.. I see other people doggin them n talkin shit well excuse them for being in love..and when i stand up for them and say y does it bother u so much the only answer i have EVER gotten is “that shit is gross” Its funny that the people most against it are the people that hold the most pride in being american.. lAND OF THE FREE .. Or have they forgot how our anthem goes??? I would love to see the reaction of people if they’re was a new law saying interracial couples cannot marry .. I mean they’re in love right?? But there would be an outburst like no other.. but wen u think about it that’s what people are doing to the gay n lesbians.. So i guess whAt I’m trying to say is I wish. Everyhing was really as equal as America claims .. N I hope one day all that will determine if two people are able to marry is the love.. Well tootles ;-)

Lesbian Quotes

“The most important political step that any gay man or lesbian can take is to come out of the closet. It’s been proven that it is easier to hate us and to fear us if you can’t see us.” — Amanda Bearse
