My Interview with Julie Goldman
I love Julie Goldman!!!! She is currently my Editors Blog Pick and with good reason. Julie is hysterical, down to Earth, and has herself wrists deep in the lesbian world of Logo.
Excerpts from Julies Bio include:
Julie was born in Boston, Mass just a few years ago. Druing Julie’s 3rd class with her favorite teacher Mrs. Gero, Julie starred in her first play “The Case of the Missing Letter” and was smitten with the actor’s life.
Julie now lives in NY with her illegal wife, obese cat and pug son Russell. Julie is a staple in the NYC comedy scene. You can catch her on any given night around town, the country and on TV and film.
Julie co-stars on THE BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW on LOGO where she is an ensemble memeber of the first ever gay sketch comedy show. Julie also appears on COMEDY CENTRAL with her featured Stand-up LIVE AT GOTHAM. Julie performs with THE JAP SHOW, in comedy clubs around NYC and at festivals, on cruises and in clubs all over the country.
In a media where we all seem to be searching for the lesbian icon that represents us well I have to say that Julie is doing a fine job! (Please click this link!!!! For serious!!!!) So I emailed Julie on a whim to let her know how much I admire her and got an interview out of it! If you have Logo please check out The Big Gay Sketch show and Julie’s Celesbian Interviews. I promise you’ll laugh!
I give you the interview…
1. Did you always know you were destined to be a lesbian celebrity, or did you want to be a veterinarian growing up?
I always wanted to be in comedy. ALWAYS. From the time I remember having memory. I have been working towards the goal of comedy and acting since I was a child. I had a JR High School Improv Teacher named Jean Trounstine who changed my life and taught me how to write material and be confident and improv, and that was the beginning of really pursuing it. I did stand up for the first time at THE COMEDY CONNECTION in Boston when I was 15.
2. You have spoken about your Mom in your stand up. Tell us about the dynamics of your relationship with her.
We actually have a very good relationship for the most part. She has a good sense of humor , but she’s just as opinionated and stubborn as I am so we can butt heads. She is also a control freak and so that can cause friction, but she’s great. Totally supportive and I think is seeing that I am doing exactly what I need to be doing.
3. Are all the lesbians in LA like the women on The L Word?
I live in NY so I don’t know LA all that well. But Form what I’ve experienced there, apparently many are.
4. Will it be a woman, an African American, or just another Republican
in 2008?Hmmmm….That I just dont know. I am voting for Hillary. I like Universal Healthcare and I just trust that she knows what shes doing politically. But If It’s Obama that’d be amazing too. I think he could galvanize people unlike anyone, it just remains to be seen if he can actually get anything done. But I think it’ll be the support of the public that will propel all that he does. And if it’s a republican then there truly is no god, and America is FUCKED.
5. Is there just as much drama in the life of a Celesbian as there is
for those of us normal folk in the suburbs?I think so. People are people I guess. Celesbians or not.
6. You’ve got one day left on Earth. What do you do with your last 24 hours?
Make sex with my wife, play with the dog, Hug and share a drink with friends, have a big family dinner, and then make sex till the earth explodes.
7. What are you most proud of?
Most proud of, just living honestly — Loving my wife, and pets, and family, and tryin to provide something for other people in the form of entertainment and love.
8. You are all over Logo. Tell us about your current and up and coming
projects.Season 2 of BGSS comes out next week, More Celesbian Interviews will be spurted around the next couple of weeks as well, and were thinking of developing Celesbian maybe into something more, I’m doing a solo show in April, a DVD taping this summer, and launching a new all womens comedy show called OFFENSIVE WOMEN — which is slowly coming together as well..
9. Boxers or panties?
Boxers and Manties
10. Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
Married in a house probably with a kid, and hopefully running my own production company making kick ass entertainment focusing on gays and women.
11. Do you think lesbians are represented well in Hollywood?
No. If represented at all, its usually just — I dont know, Just stereotypical or just what men think lesbians are.
12. What does the word “Butch” mean to you?
It means being a masculine type of lady. It is a state of mind to me where a woman can be tough, and sensitive, and combine all the best parts of men and women. I love being Butch, or butchesque, or butchish, or whatever. Its a different kind of lady. To me, Being a woman and being with women in this way is being able to be every part of onesself, and not preclude yourself to anything. topbottomleftandright its all good to me. I am a woman, and not pretending to be anything but.
