I get my news from:
- The New York Times
- Village Voice
- Pam’s House Blend
- When I’m bored also…Feministing, Gothamist, Gawker
Issues that matter:
The economy has to trump arguably all the rest for now. I understand why some people have faith in the free market, but I don’t understand why they don’t fight more for the poor. They are gain disproportionately less while the richest gain disproportionately more when the economy is booming. When its in recession, they are basically fucked. Increasing taxes shouldn’t scare the middle class so much as they probably won’t be touched. The upperclass should be taxed like before Bush, which will help the poor receive more aid. This will stimulate the local economy in recession. Not the other way around. Letting the rich kids have more money just means they save more money. The poor kids will spend more so they can live a little more comfortably. See this article.
And the only other issue I really care about of course the gays. Civil unions aren’t the same as marriage. Accept nothing less.
With all that said, OBAMA! OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA! His only real policy difference with Hillary is the health care issue. I believe that can be worked out and the main goal right now should be…getting a liberal into office. Hillary has soo many haters, I worry she wouldn’t beat a moderate Republican. Obama is bipartisan and a freaking genius. But don’t hate… of course I’d have faith in Hillary if she was the nominee.
And last thought of the day - re Goldstardyke’s post. (For now) I absolutely believe politics can affect change. I used to think otherwise in the last election…nothing will really change despite who’s president and nothing will really affect me. But look at how much has happened in the past 8 years that has changed. Foreign policy, strict conservative social policy…all that can be credited to Bush. I am optimistic the next president can affect the same amount of change…especially with a democratic Congress.
