Karen Needs Help – Gay Marriage in California

TLL just received an email from Lori Hahn over at Hahn at Home to help her friend Karen and her partner win a contest to send them to LA to get legally married! Always wanting to help a loving couple in need I would like to post the details here:

Borrowed from Karen’s Blog: Okay, I posted earlier today and mentioned the contest that one of our local radio stations is holding to send a same sex couple to California to get legally married.

Joanne and I have discussed this a lot and we decided - Hey! Why don’t we try for it?!

We have been together for 7 years and this would be a wonderful opportunity. I can’t even imagine. Anyway, we entered the contest.

Please give us a 10 even though we aren’t 10s!

You do know, don’t you, that unless you actually live in California, your marriage will be illegal once you go back home? Same-sex marriage is only legal in the states in which you can legally get married. In fact, if you travel to Massachusetts, you will not be married even though it is legal for same-sex residents of MA to become married in that state. MA and CA do not recognize same-sex marriages for anyone who has been married and lives outside that state. This is why it’s important for same-sex marriage to become legal on a Federal level. Only then will all same-sex marriages, regardless of where they take place, will be recognized throughout the U.S.
