The ACLU LGBT Project
Lately I’ve wondered what the world will be like when my two year old niece is my age. Just yesterday I was watching her chase bubbles around the back yard without a care in the world. She doesn’t know about discrimination yet, she thinks that money is just more paper she can color on, and she hasn’t a clue how much gas costs to take her back and forth to day care.
I keep on telling people that it feels like The End of Days. I site the war, the economy, earthquakes, and the fact that Bush was elected for a second term just to name a few. Then I realized that I don’t have the right to bitch about it if I don’t do anything about it. I have personally decided to start recycling more household items, I refuse to read gossip mags, TMZ, or Perez Hilton anymore, and I have begun to look into an organization to promote, work for, and support.
The ACLU recently purchased an ad to run on the TLL sidebar. I like when we get ads like this on this blog. I like it because I hope it’s the type of ad that readers will actually click on and learn about. One of their slogans is, “You have the right to be yourself.” How could I not respect that. It inspires an emotion in me that yearns for change. It applies to friends, family, and strangers.
I will give what I can financially, and do all I can in regards to volunteering. It’s something I need to do. It’s something that will make me feel better about my nieces future. It’s good to know that there are people out there who still believe in freedom and ending discrimination once and for all. So if you have the urge to become part of something please visit the site and learn more about a fantastic organization.
