Goldstar Review: Itty Bitty Titty Committee
The Itty Bitty Titty Committee
Director: Jamie Babbitt
Starring: Melonie Diaz, Nicole Vicius, Carly Pope, Melanie Mayron, Daniela Sea, Lauren Mollica, Guinevere Turner, Jenny Shimizu, Jimmi Simpson, Leslie Grossman, Deak Evgenikos
This latest fabulous movie from Jamie (But I’m a Cheerleader) Babbit is a dynamic, romantic, frequently funny and politically astute movie with a smart script, rockin’ soundtrack and terrific ensemble cast that includes sexy young Melonie Diaz as the new dyke on the block who falls in with a great gang of Feminist troublemakers called Clits in Action (CiA), and then falls in love with leader of the pack, Nicole Vicius. Unfortunately, Nicole has a girlfriend – Melanie Mayron – and, as they say, drama ensues. With Carly Pope, Daniela Sea, Guinevere Turner, Deak Evgenikos, Jenny Shimizu and Lauren Mollica.
Finally a lesbian movie that I can review with flying colors. Yesterday was a shitty, rainy, muggy day. The highlight of my day came around 11pm when I popped in my screener for The Itty Bitty Titty Committee!
A portion of my criteria for reviewing lesbian films is asking myself, “Self, can you see this really happening
in your world?” My answer in regards to IBTC was “Yes!” The characters are real. They are representations of women I’ve seen along the way. Women that go to the bars, hang out at the coffee shops, and struggle to find meaning in this life. The relatability of this film is on point and the story behind the characters is a wonderful political romp through feminism and the war against phallic symbols.
My only complaint is that it’s missing a fat lesbian or two. When will we ever see a fat lesbian on the big screen? And by fat I mean really fat, not Julie Goldman cute and mildly chunky. If any directors, writers, or producers are unaware of the life and thoughts behind the curtain of a fat dykes life please feel free to shoot me an email and I’ll give you an ear full! We are out there!!!! And we will support your films even if every woman in it doesn’t look like Angelia Jolie!
Bottom Line: This films a keeper. It deserved all the awards it received and is worth a rent and will make the perfect addition to your lesbian film collection should you chose to purchase it. Jenny Shimizu has a small, but poignant part. Daniela Sea is the same Max from the L Word. And Carly Pope is a scene stealer for sure. I wasn’t thrilled with the main character played by Melanie Mayron, but the rest of the cast picked up the slack.
This film is taking lesbian cinema in a direction that I hope it continues to go in. When it was over I wanted to find my local CIA underground group and fill out the necessary paper work to join! The soundtrack was superb, the storyline was believable, and the actresses were all I could ask for. With that said I award The Itty Bitty Titty Committee the highest award.

Great review!!! I too loved this film and can’t wait til my dvd shows up in the mail. I saw this in NY in a huge theater with hundreds of happy viewers about a year ago.
In regards to missing the fat girls: They have older and younger, skinny and not skinny girls, lots of differ colors, and different looks, and if you look in the background there are fatter girls……
