Kate Perry has a catchy tune…but I always get the impression that she’s never “really” kissed a girl. It sounds like she just kissed her little niece when she says “I liked it.” Um…hardly what I would say after a kiss with a chick. Who wears “cherry chapstick” anymore anyway?

Point is, all of us know that the song doesn’t come close to anything accurate – but, in its defense, what Pop really does? I think it does have some value, however. It invokes discussion foremost, and secondly…what lesbian doesn’t think it’s cute to see a little teenage girl bopping to a song about kissing another chick? It’s a great inroad to a deeper discussion of sexuality and orientation.

Kate Perry is similar to the Tatu of my younger years. Some good beats, a little controversy, but not much substance. Kind of like my first kiss with a minister’s daughter.

Juls last blog post..Salma Hayek single again…ditches grandpa.

I was put off by some of the lyrics, too, especially when she says "you're my experimental game." It kinda irks me, but like with most songs, it's made to be catchy and flirty. Let's just see if Katy becomes more than a one-hit wonder.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('3031','Deepdiva','I was put off by some of the lyrics, too, especially when she says \"you\'re my experimental game.\" It kinda irks me, but like with most songs, it\'s made to be catchy and flirty.
There's nothing like the memory of our first kiss. I'll never forget the tingle that went through me when I had mine. As for the song, it is what it is. I don't like nor loath it. I do however have a lot of semi straight friends who find comfort in it. It never ceases to amaze me how many straight married women out there love the feeling of another woman's lips.

We are all on our own paths and should all be allowed the right to love who we love and experiment when we see fit. I may be hated by some because of my sexuality, but I'm loved by just as many if not more.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('3027','goldstardyke','There\'s nothing like the memory of our first kiss.
I can definitely see how the song is, in some way, an ode to bi-curious experimentation, absolutely. But I simply cannot stand some of the lyrics in the song. Especially these lines, "it's not what good girls do, not how they should behave" and "it felt so wrong, it felt so right". Lines like this are evidence to an underlying homophobia. It irritates me that the song is so catchy and most of the time people aren't truly listening to what they're singing - it doesn't affirm queerness at all!
