The Morning of September 11

I was lying in my room
O
blivious to the events going on around me
And when the phone rung I wondered who in the world was bothering me
Even if I would have ignored the call, the results would be the same
People were dying
Two planes had hit the World Trade
Right in the middle of New York City
Home Of The Brave
Covered in ashes
Chaos
Madness is what the news said
Every since that day,
Nothing has been the same
I watched people fall to their death
Firefighters perished
Where Two Towers stood, only rumble was left
I stood in Brooklyn on the top of a building and watched the towers fall
I stood amidst a crowd of people screaming
And crying
Feeling helpless
Not knowing what to do as we watched the towers fall
And the aftermath
Was grim
I watched my friend get dressed and rush to the hospital where she worked
To help the thousands of injured that would surely come
Hours went by
Days turned into nights
The city that never slept stood still
Waiting for the injured that never came
Finally we all began to realize
There weren’t many injured because most didn’t survive.
The people that didn’t speak cried… Together
Together we as a nation realized we were not God
Together we as a nation watched our presidents’ reaction
And were shocked
We tuned in to every news channel there was
Trying hard to figure out what was going on
We were assaulted
And this time,
There was no black or white
Gay or straight
Man or woman
We were all one in the same
A joined nation
Yet and still, if only for moments in time.
I have friends who lost family in the world trade
I know people who still cry today over the world trade
If you want to see the heart of New York,
Go visit the site of the world trade
Scrolls the names
Throw a penny in the fountain for fallen fighters
The wall of the missing
Never found,
Just considered perished
Talk to any business man on Wall Street
Visit the Chinese on Canal Street
Go across the bridge to Jersey
And the feelings are all the same
It’s not about the buildings
But the lives that was lost
The families that were separated
The war that followed
The nation divided
The spirit that was killed
For every flag waved
We will never forget
The falling of the World Trade
