Totally agree Goldstar...you said it well. The fight does get tiring, and it seems like it's never going to end. Even now, the political landscape isn't all that hopeful. Do you vote for a candidate who will give you "some rights," in the form of civil unions - which could end in a rut of second-class citizenship, or do you vote for a candidate who doesn't believe in same-sex unions at all, hoping that in the meantime, you get those rights in your state. I wish we had more than 2 parties.

Either way, I've been active. I've testified in front of the senate judiciary committee for same-sex marriage, I was on the board of directors for a large same-sex organization, and I try to donate to causes as much as I can.

In more honest moments though...I do contemplate just moving to Canada, or to a european country where this is less of an issue. I find myself a bit resentful that I pay taxes into a system that doesn't support me, and wouldn't give my social security (if I get it anyway) to my spouse if I should die.

It is the moments that I feel no different that are the best...and I am thankful for that to be the majority of the time.

Goldstar...what about these "parties" I am hearing about? Next one you have, I'm popping over.

I, too, think it's wrong that we have to fight for love. And at the same time, I see how far we've come in America in the last 25 years alone. When I was a teenager, homosexuality was only whispered at, like a dirty little secret. Today, hordes of us, private and public, have brought it out to everyone. We get to fight out loud. That, at least, is something.

As an out lesbian, I have experienced responses across the spectrum from "Yay, you're gay," to "Whatever," to "Filthy monster, get away from my children." Most are like the former two, and that's probably why when I get something similar to the latter response, it doesn't phase me. It's their loss, not mine.

I applaud your encouragement that we fight. Good for you.
