We often don't talk about abortion, because it's not something that always comes up in lesbian circles...unless you have a history with men, or consider yourself bisexual, there are no "slips" in lesbian sex...which can be both a blessing (no unwanted pregnancies) and a curse (you can't have a child with your partner in that way).

Personally, I don't know if I could do it....but I do know that I would never interfere with someone else's choice on it either. Truth is, who knows what decisions I would make in similar circumstances...and I respect women who make decisions in any direction.

I suppose I take a very hillary clinton approach when she said that abortion should be "safe, legal and rare." Protection should be available, understood, and advocated for.

While my own personal feelings around abortion have changed somewhat over the years, I still believe, and will believe to my dying breath that in end, it is the WOMAN'S CHOICE to make. Not the husband or boyfriend's choice, not the parents' choice and for god's sake not the GOVERNMENT'S choice to make. All these self-righteous pricks who want to have "smaller government" yet force women to be pregant and have babies they don't want. And then what? Do THEY step up to the plate and offer their sweet money to help the crack-addicted mothers and babies? Do they offer to pay for daycare that costs MORE a week than a minimum wage job pays? Do they agree to HIRE the mother and pay her a decent wage? No. They go on to moralize about how "unfit" she is. So grandparents and great grandparents end up raising these kids, or they get abused to deatch, or caught in the cracks of the foster/social services systems and end up with various personality disorders and start the whole vicious cycle over agaain. Oh, but Mr. Prick with sign is SOOOOO proud because he's saved a "baby". And ruined how many other lives in the process.

The government needs to STAY OUT OF women's bodies. PERIOD.

The first abortion, I was on the pill. Got pregnant anyway. I was 19.

The second and third times, I was on the pill. My (then) husband and I did not want children. (He had a vasectomy later.)

The procedure(s) led to severe cramps. Not surprising since that's how my cycles were.

I think I'm an odd duck in the lesbian community. I didn't know I was gay until a friend and I admitted our feelings for each other seven years ago. That was after two marriages and two divorces. I'd been living on my own for four years then.

May we each find the healing we seek.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('3370','LetsDance'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('3370','LetsDance','The first abortion, I was on the pill.
