Blog Action Day 2008: Poverty

blog-action-day-2008-poverty

Poverty (also called penury) is deprivation of common necessities that determine the quality of life, including food, clothing, shelter and safe drinking water, and may also include the deprivation of opportunities to learn, to obtain better employment to escape poverty, and/or to enjoy the respect of fellow citizens. ~ Wikipedia

I don’t really have the words for a post on poverty. I believe some photos will say more than I ever could.

What can we do to help? How can we solve this? How can we make others’ lives better?
This is what we need to be asking.
Do a food drive–make food baskets and send them to homeless shelters. Donate some money.
Something!

Great post and striking pictures indeed.

My thoughts on poverty…

*Excess used improperly is the demise of a nation. The idea of excess for the few perpetuates poverty for the many. A scarcity consciousness is a product of white privilege and excess.*

Just google poverty and dozens and dozens of images are people of color, women of color and children.
