A Message From A Pennsylvanian RE: Prop 8
Vote NO on Prop 8! Californians, do everything you can to preserve your rights!
I live in Pennsylvania. Here in PA, gays and lesbians do not have the right to marry. We don’t have the right to be in domestic partnerships, either. Nor do we have civil unions. In fact, here in Pennsylvania gays and lesbians are specifically blocked from ever benefiting from these privileges by a law that states that marriage is between a man and a woman. Period.
What this legislation means to me personally, is that my partner and I have no rights as a couple in this state. Instead, we are forever enmeshed in a moral “Catch 22,” imposed by conservatives. It is rather ironic. The same people that denounce us for living the “gay lifestyle” (I have yet to figure that out) also block us from living as legally bound spouses. It is both demeaning and frightening, especially as we age and issues like hospitalization, property rights, pensions and health care begin to loom.
It seems to me that California got it right the first time. Please allow gay marriage to stand in your state. It is a means for loving couples to take care of each other in times of sickness and upon aging, rather than relying on nieces and nephews, elderly friends or even Medicaid. It is, above all, what marriage has always been…a practical response to the social condition of humans. Please consider allowing us to take care of our own!
Vote NO on Prop 8!

I know what you mean! I live in Ohio! Talk about a homophobe state!
