A Goldstar Interview with Denise and Donna from The Lesbian Lounge Podcast
| Hot: |
I’ve been a fan of The Lesbian Lounge hosted on MyLesbianRadio.com for awhile now. A girl needs something to listen to while she’s working from home all day.
Denise and Donna are the hosts of this “lesbicentric” podcast and both have laughs that you’ll surely find contagious. The Lesbian Lounge discusses all things lesbionic. Their MySpace page will let you know that they like to talk about a little bit of gossipy news and sports, The Bar Tab – spotlighting Denise’s “Drink of The Week and Cool Place to Hang” (it’s the internet- we’re not talking just local!) We’ll be reviewing hot trends and hot spots all over the world. We’ll help you with friendly advice in “The U-Haul Tipof the Week,” Donna’s “Oh-Yes!” sex tip segment, and when Denise “Cruises the Online Personals”. There isn’t a sapphic stone left unturned by these ladies.
The Lesbian Lounge is LIVE Wednesday nights at 9pm EST on http://MyLesbianRadio.com and www.GayInternetRadioLive.com
How did you two meet?
DENISE: We met when we both volunteered at a Spoken Word group called Sister Speak about 7 or 8 years ago, although it feels like 10 or 20 years.
DONNA: The official story is when we both volunteered to be on the collective for a local spoken word group called Sister Speak. That was about 8 years ago. But I remember stalking Denise on the Love on AOL personals about a year before that. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone.
How did The Lesbian Lounge Begin?
DENISE: We did a raunchy, filthy internet show- that started out fun, but grew OLD reallllly fast, so I decided to clean it up, make it something to be proud of and the Lounge was born.
DONNA: Denise had been asked to host an internet radio talk show for MEN by LESBIANS. After a really short period of time she knew our own community would never support us and developed the basic format that The Lesbian Lounge is now. We were lucky when Denise tapped into this relatively new internet radio website and said, “Hey! Wanna host some lezzies?” And they said YES!
In five words describe The Lesbian Lounge to someone who hasn’t yet discovered it.
DENISE: Any lesbionic thing you need.
DONNA: Funny, Loose, Entertaining, Informative, FUNNY!
Who’s on top?
DENISE: I come across that way, let’s just leave it at that!
DONNA: DENISE. And I have nothing more to say about that.
Do you find that lesbians are a tough crowd to please?
DENISE: On a whole yes, as far as our niche-a little older- – I think they want information, easy, accessible, comfortable.
DONNA: Before we started broadcasting the show I might have said yes. But because the show is on the internet and accessible by everyone in the world, and the podcast is there even if you can’t be there with us live, it’s so refreshing to know that we really are all just looking for a good laugh, a bit of new and interesting information, and a comfortable place to enjoy it.
What is your favorite subject to discuss on the show?
DENISE: celebrity gossip, anything new or that we find exciting…new movie, new book….new place….any new little nugget of info that a lesbian may need.
DONNA: Anything new and sometimes not-so-new from the world of lesbian entertainment – movies, books, websites, guests. Being able to support our own community from within.
Who has been your most interesting guest on The Lesbian Lounge?
DENISE: Oh wow- well, personally I love when Stacy Codikow or Lisa Thrasher of POWER UP calls in. Suzanne Westenhoefer is always a pant wetting experience, I love how fun Jane Lynch was. Julie Goldman is completely insane, Sophie B Hawkins was so deep, I needed an oxygen tank….
DONNA: Ah, this is always hard for me to pick just one. Stacy Codikow and Lisa Thrasher from POWER-Up are ALWAYS interesting and full of great news and information. Suzanne Westenhoefer is a guaranteed good time and most recently Amy Ray stopped by. She was really interesting to talk with and I practically hyperventilated the whole time!
You have both been pegged as polar opposites. What do you have in common other than your sexuality?
DENISE: our commitment to the lesbian community….and our ability to make one another crack up spontaneously….and to be there for the bad times, too (and usually make of it…)
DONNA: Ummmm, ummmm… hmmmm, this is really a tough one! I know there’s something… Ok, just kidding. I think Denise and I became friends purely because of the way our humor bounces off each other, We both love to laugh, at ourselves most of all, and the fact that we get to do that in front of other people every week just makes it better. We really do love each other. Really. We do. No, really.
Your show is absolutely hysterical, when was the last time you laughed so hard you peed your pants?
DENISE: I have never wet my pants so badly as I did at a table reading/rehearsal of our comedy soap opera “All My Girlfriends”. I literally RAN to my bathroom and stood in the shower fully clothed.
DONNA: On the show – last Wednesday! We really do have a weekly goal of seeing who can make whom pee first. (For the record, Denise usually wins re: frequency. But I definitely win re: intensity!)
DENISE: I would absolutely love to have a TV show like Graham Norton has on The BBC- live guests, sitting in for the whole show, funny segments, live audience interaction…late night, so it can still be slightly crude.
Where do you see yourselves in ten years?
DONNA: It would be great if we could keep the loose, open format of the show and bring it to broadcast TV. Late night, not too many rules, and always great guests. Of course we’d keep it streaming live on the internet because being available world-wide on any time frame for every woman is one of the things I love best about doing our show.
If you were a lesbian bar what would you look like inside?
DENISE: A total clam shack, patio, beachy type of bungalow atmosphere! Keep that Florida feel.
DONNA: A circus. No, a carnival. No, an adult entertainment complex. No, a campground in the woods with a really great women’s musicians line-up. WAIT! What was the question??
Do you need a co-host, cause this bitch is ready to join the party?
DENISE: Hey beeotch, keep that toll free number handy- ya never know- weren’t there 3 angels in Charlies Angels? Three roommates in Three’s Company? Hmm…..3 could be the magic number! Or at least a halfway decent night!
DONNA: Sure! Come on! But listen, you’ll have to bring your own chair, your own mic, and your own spotlight. Denise doesn’t really like to share…
Again The Lesbian Lounge broadcasts live on Wednesdays from 9-11PM EST and rebroadcasts on Sundays at Noon. It is also available for download on iTunes. Check these ladies out and be sure to show them some love on your blogs.
