I spoke too soon

Hot:

Okay people. Honestly now….it just goes to show that just when I start to think we are making progress as a nation, fuck-ups somewhere ruin it for me.

California- Voters pass Prop 8 overturning the state’s Supreme Court ruling allowing gays to marry

Florida- Voters pass Prop 2, a ban on same-sex marriages in the state

Arizona-Voters pass Prop. 102, defining marriage as between one man and one woman in the Arizona Constitution

Arkansas- Voters pass Act One, prohibiting “unmarried sexual partners” (both opposite sex and same sex) from adopting children or from serving as foster parents

WHAT THE FUCK, PEOPLE?! Are we really going to tell all those Californians newlyweds that their marriages are no longer valid? Do we really need to now try to overturn even MORE state bans on same-sex rights? Who is going to tell all the parent-less children that they have to sit around even longer waiting for parents because “unmarried sexual partners” who would love them unconditionally are just as unfit as their own bio-parents were?

When are people going to wake up and see that gays are not out to rule the world? Same-sex marriage and fostering/adopting children doesn’t take anything away from anyone. We aren’t trying to steal the whole pie, just have a slice for ourselves. Oh wait, does that sound too selfish? I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that voicing the desires for civil rights, social acceptance, and wanting to give children loving homes would sound so ludicrous.

I feel so hopeless on this issue. I can’t understand the points of view of the opposition, but maybe I’m just biased. Maybe none of those who oppose equal rights have anyone they care about who is gay, or have never known of a child who needed caring parents. Maybe my point of view is purely selfish. Heck, maybe granting gays marriage would ultimately destroy every heterosexual marriage on the books, as if with a 50% divorce rate that really needs any help. Maybe gay parents would teach homosexuality to children and molest them all, since never before in the history of the world has a heterosexual parent raised a gay child, or molested their own flesh and blood.

Why does only Massachusetts have it right? This is a state that not only ALLOWS same-sex marriage, but just passed a ballot measure that replaces current criminal penalties with civil penalties on adults possessing an ounce or less of marijuana. What is with the people in that state anyway? It must have something to do with the history of the state, and the people who flock to live there must really like to shake things up, like some sort of romanticism to relive the Boston Tea Party.

The whole thing just frustrates me to no end. I could go on and on, really, so for the sake of time, I will just say this:

Someday, we will hopefully pass on to our children a country that does not discriminate.
Someday they will hopefully see not just another straight man elected as President, but maybe a women (and hopefully not a Clinton), maybe a gay man, maybe a lesbian, maybe a Muslim.
Someday, maybe their children, our grandchildren, will be able to say that American isn’t only just a “land of opportunity”, but that all men are created equal, and that those “unalienable Rights” written of so long ago, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness“, stand true in this nation.

I Think this is all bull shit! How can you make a law saying someone cant be with the person they love? Who are they to judge? And not even that! Banning gay marriage is not going to stop gay/lesbians from being together. I think there are more important things to worry about smh.

Lesbian Quotes

“The most important political step that any gay man or lesbian can take is to come out of the closet. It’s been proven that it is easier to hate us and to fear us if you can’t see us.” — Amanda Bearse
