More Small Steps…
| Hot: |
I am a medical transcriptionist by trade, and I do work for a large East-coast clinic. I’ve typed a lot of reports on a lot of different people of all ages, with all kinds of conditions. Most of them, I don’t remember after they’ve flowed through my ears and out my fingers, but just last week, one stuck with me. Don’t worry, I won’t be revealing any confidential medical information, just a small victory for “our side”.
The patient was a woman (so was the doctor). She dictated in the usual format, but at the end of the first paragraph, stated, “The patient was accompanied by her wife today.”
Wow. Such a small thing, but such a HUGE impact.
And she dictated it several more times….”She and her wife wonder if…”, “Her wife asked if…”, etc.
Now, I know that we expect doctors to be pretty neutral and nonjudgmental about their patients, etc, but after typing them for a while, you can tell if something doesn’t “sit well” with them. I got none of that from the doctor. She dictated as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Good for her.
As it should be.

Thank you for sharing that. It’s truly heartwarming.
