The Last Goodbye

In attempting to balance the resistance I have lost my footing
Swaying to the right when a lean to the left was needed
Falling closer to her when all I should do is teach myself to run away
I shouldn’t have told the story
Should have never let anyone else in on our secret
The fairy tale written in blood ink
The wishes tattooed upon our hearts
The promises written in ashes

It’s just that I can hear them
Here the whispers and the regret
Thorns hurt already
But these thorns have teeth
And I can’t stop learning that to hurt is to feel
Happiness is far to fleeting
It is only a bump in the road of nothing much at all
A mechanical chemical with far too many substitutions

So what if this is the extent of it
A simple confusion that only I can see
A beautiful dance in the dark
Followed by an expensive bottle of tasteless wine
To tell our truths
To sacrifice our commitments
We could do it
She and I

If I stay here nothing will change
The same riddles will test me
The same faces will root me
A caged mind
Dulled by pharmacies
Drained by a lack of love
A caged heart
Chained by her
Alive because of her

The words beat to a song that only suffering knows the name to
The view from outside is far different from the view within
It’s there I wait
Breath held
Life fleeting
A story that is nothing without courage
Only something with pain
The perfect picture
The most beautiful smile
The only love
The last good bye
