TLL Adult Review: Tantric Sex for Women
| Hot: |
Okay, this isn’t a review of Sex Toys, but it is a review of a really interesting book. I’d like to thank Sextoy.com for sending me Tantric Sex for Women, written by Christa Schulte, a German woman who operates a center for feminist psychotherapy and works with women on “issues of self-love and sexuality.” I’ll admit I had a tough time reviewing this book, and part of the reason is that I haven’t finished reading it yet! Then I realized that even the author recognizes that this isn’t a book that you necessarily read start to finish. The author urges you to “follow your inner chaos, your curiosity, the flow of your own energy.”
This book has more than fifty exercises that focus on sexuality and sensuality, intended to promote sexual openness, both with yourself and with a partner. These activities are all really practical, and focus on things like how to push aside your daily worries and thought clutter in order to fully enjoy intimate moments with yourself or with a partner, and there are a lot that are geared for solo women as well, like how to plan an erotic date with yourself when you’re feeling particularly splendid and have no place to go. This book is very sex and woman positive, but not terribly gender inclusive because it is about tantric sex for women. So unfortunately, it may not be of much use to trans folk.
There’s not much (or perhaps any) mention of vibrators or other Sex Toys, and the book instead focuses on the spiritual and sensual aspects of connecting with your sexuality. I don’t mean spiritual as in religious, but in the sense of becoming attuned to yourself intimately and completely, even on a spiritual level.
I really liked that in each exercise there’s a section of “Creative Ways to Deal With Stumbling Blocks,” which gives ideas and suggestions of ways to work through difficulties that you encounter in an activity. It addresses ways to handle things that might be preventing you from getting the most out of an activity, for example one that suggests allowing a partner to undress you, the “Stumbling Blocks,” portion might address ways to deal with unwanted changes to one’s body, if self-consciousness has proven to be a barrier.
This is a great book to pick up when you feel the desire to try something new, or want to try to get more in tune with your body or your partner’s body. It’s easy to read, practical and organized. What more could you ask for? A Sanskrit term for your lady parts? This book has that too. Yoni. So, there you have it. Everything you could want, and really refreshing ideas for getting to know yourself and/or your gal. This is a must read if you’re interested in starting to learn and practice tantric sex.

Sounds like a great book Carnivalesq! I like the idea of the solo time and planning an erotic date with yourself. Many tantra books I find are hard to get through. So much info. Hopefully this will be a book you can come back to again and again.
