The L-Word What I Think Season 6 Episode 8 (Spoiler)
Season 6 – FINAL SEASON
Episode 8: “Last Word” SERIES FINAL…
I am so sad this series is over. This show has touched me in so many more ways than I can ever begin to explain. My partner and I were watching the 1 hour special that was on before the show, and I had tears in my eyes from the beginning of the special to the end of the episode. To tear up just because a television show was ending seemed crazy to me…but the more I listened to the writers, producers, and every day women talk about how the L Word changed television for Lesbians everywhere….it made so much more sense to me. It wasn’t just me….it’s everyone. This show is a landmark for the LGBT community, most especially lesbians. I mean, the straight world has Friends, Dawson’s Creek, and Melrose Place, and a bevy of other TV shows (not that I didn’t watch those shows, cause I certainly did)…..and we lesbians have ONE. Just one…so it’s no wonder we are all so sad to see it go. There were so many people who had said “I don’t know any lesbians that look like that, they are all gorgeous! That show is so fake” Not for nothing….what television show ISN’T fake. I mean look at Beverly Hills 90210 for Christ sake! Now THOSE were some good looking people. No one in my high school looked even close to them… so television is what it is, entertainment. Every once in a while there is a brilliant idea, and the world either hates it or loves it. Look at Roseanne, that was a great show. That was the typical American family right there. They had real every day problems. I think in the case of The L Word…most people loved it. There certainly are people who didn’t like the show, or didn’t agree with having the gay lifestyle so front and center, and on the cover of every magazine. But the show isn’t for them, it’s for us.
We start with Shane, at the police station. She talks about the word ‘We’, when couples use it. I have to admit, I’m guilty of that myself. Maybe not as bad as Jenny is with Shane…but I still do it. I can’t believe she actually thinks her and Shane are the next Tibet, HA….cause they aren’t. But the way Shane is talking, it makes sense for her. She needs to be independent. I thrive on my ‘We’, I am thankful that I have someone who considers me her ‘We’. But as we have all seen, in Shane‘s past relationships…she isn’t too big on the ‘We’, ‘Us’, etc. Alice asks Shane about her being suddenly honor bound, how she’s been a bit of a whore in the past. The thing about these scene, I have always like the dynamic between Shane and Alice. I liked the camera angles from above the bed, and Shane & Alice below, but not
in a sexual way. Back to Shane….the crazy part is that she feels responsible for Jenny, how she is, how she acts, her well being. If Shane were to feel so responsible for another person (besides her little brother), it would think it would have been Molly, or Carmen. It sucks that she obviously wants to break up with Jenny, even more so after she finds out about the letter Molly wrote and leather jacket in the attic that Jenny hid. I KNEW that would come out eventually, figured the best time would be the finale. I would be SO pissed. Shane was real soft on Molly, and walked away from her, sacrificed herself to save Molly. Then to find out Molly really
did fall for her…and Jenny held all that to herself. And as if matters aren’t bad enough, while Shane is in the attic looking for the jacket and letter, she comes across the Lez Girls negatives! BIG SURPRISE! So now Shane fully understands (or at least has a better idea of) how deceptive and deceitful her girlfriend is. And you know she every intention of confronting her. She even tells Alice that she wasn’t with her anymore. It’s a shame, because I know Shane meant well, and wanted to do good by Jenny. She may have even wanted to change herself for Jenny, of course that was before she realized how crazy Jenny was. On the bright side, now that Jenny is dead, Shane didn’t have to break up with her, and she is left with all of Jenny‘s money (she got for sniping Alice‘s treatment). She is a free woman, and can go after Molly (or Carmen!!) if she wants.
I am still in awe of how Alice and Tasha have come along. For a moment there I was worried, REAL worried. I wanted them to last, to be the next Tibet if you will. To be ‘The Last Couple Standing’. The whole time her, Tasha and Jamie were at that table in The Planet, I was holding my breath. I can’t believe that she tells Tasha and Jamie to just go at it. Although nothing has happened between them physically…they have thought about each other like that. Alice had balls to even c
ome at that situation head on like that. All she wanted was honesty, for them to admit how they feel. Then Jamie says she’s fallen in love with Tasha…..OH SHIT! I didn’t think it was all like that. Alice had every right to be pissed, every right. That hurt, you could see it all over Alice‘s face. After Dana, and the silly boys and silly girls she has been with thus far, Tasha is ‘The One’. And to listen to Tasha talk about Alice in the police station. It was sweet, you can see in Tasha‘s eyes, Alice is ‘The One’ for her too. Then after all that waiting Alice did, waiti
ng for Tasha to call….Tasha comes through. I knew she would, I knew she wouldn’t let Alice get away from her like that. I am so proud of her. Her and Alice really are the Last Ones Standing. When Tasha walks in TiBet’s living room, and Alice sees her, you can just see the relief on her face. I am happy with how that story line ended.
The Dylan and Helena saga continues. I am still unsure if I want them to work out or not. I still don’t trust her…just too shady. She’s sneaking phone calls and saying it’s nobody, it’s nothing….makes me nervous. Helena is just too cute, and too nice for Dylan to screw over again. She makes Helena feel bad about being paranoid. And Helena has every right to be paranoid. I’ve never had money like Helena‘s used to, but I can imagine that there are a lot of people who only like you for your money. Then we had the ‘trust me’ scene…was a little weird. The more Dylan asked h
er if she trusted her, the more I didn’t. The knife thing….I think I might have slapped her! Did you seriously come at me with a knife and expect me to get turned on? Maybe if I didn’t think you were being shady….sure, maybe. Plus to find out that Dylan knew all about the Niki scheme from the start…ugh. Seriously!! She could never trust Dylan again. (she shouldn’t have trusted her to begin with.)
The word Max uses, to describe friends who are just like family, ‘Framily’…I really like that. It has a ring to it. Max has come a very long way from Moira. Daniela Sea is a beautiful actress, it must have been a struggle to portray a transgender man (or is it the other way around….shit). I can imagine the transgender community has a sense of pride with the Max character. Although it probably isn’t the best example of the community, but like I said earlier, it’s TV, not real life.
So Bette and Tina are moving to New York, (but not before they finish the edition on their house…a VERY nice edition at that…did you see the roll up blinds?!). Speaking of the new edition to their house. The deck not being finished was my first idea for what killed Jenny. They kept referring to it through out the whole episode. A little foreshadowin
g much?! Kit even said in the beginning not to let Angie near it cause it was dangerous…duh. THEN we have the orgasm. The wonderful Tina orgasm. Damn, a good way to end the season (would have rather had a little more Bette on that one though). And Tina mentions something about the railing and how they should finish it before people come over. Right after that orgasm, she is thinking about the railing… that cracked me up a little. Then Bette proposes…and we get the shot of them on the bed. BEST Tibet shots EVER!! If you loo
k back on the first episodes, that’s just how they slept together then. Before everything happened. They looked amazing. Very happy. That is, until Tina offered the brand new bathroom for Sunset Boulevard to go pee in. That was funny, men pee in the powder room and women can use the new bathroom. Bette isn’t an man hater though, LOL. Then Angie calls Sunset Boulevard Daddy…OMG! I didn’t know what to say either….awkward. Later, Bette, after talking to Kit about it, and realizing she cannot ignore Jenny‘s idea that she had an affair, she confronts Jenny on the deck (the one with no railing…). Telling her that her family is important, and she would do anything to protect them. I’m thinking, ‘Tell me Bette cracked…tell me she doesn’t kill Jenny!’ Bette isn’t like that, but for a moment, I thought so. Then we see Tina freaking out about Jenny stealing the negatives. Tina lost her job over those negatives. She worked so long and hard on that movie.
LOL, the Niki Stevens interview with the cop….LOL. That made me laugh, she is such a princess. She looked like a deer caught in headlights. What the hell was she doing in Tibet’s bushes anyway? What an idiot! She comes walking through the living room jabbering on about the dance marathon, and Jenny keeping Shane like a prisoner. I was laughing, she is just too much.
Jenny. I just want to point out, at Helena‘s (FUCKING HUGE) house in the very beginning of the episode….WTF is Jenny wearing? With that poofy blue skirt…ugh. It wa
s hideous, she has worn some real cute stuff…but that was certainly not one of them, LOL. And how about her telling Shane that if she didn’t have her, she would kill herself. Then saying how she would leave everything to her. That was a little more foreshowing for ya. Then she says she has a video of Carmen dancing, DANCING! I will never forget the black lace panties with garters and the black bra to match. Jenny‘s dining room, dancing for Shane. Now THAT is how we should be ending the series! But we don’t get to see it
Back to Jenny and her crazy ass self. For a moment I feel bad for her, when she is talking about her friends that want her to go away. But then I remember how Jenny is. That video of Bette and Kelly DOES look like they are having sex…but we all know they weren’t. Pretty much, by the end of the episode, every character, besides maybe Max, is pissed at her. They are all talking about how much they hate her, and how nasty she is. After stealing the Lez Girls negatives, the Bette & Kelly video, Shane’s jacket and letter, ripping off Alice‘s story, being in cahoots with Dylan against Helena. Everyone is looking for her…and all we see is her dog, Sounder, sniffing by the pool. (Speaking of the dog….where has he been this entire season?) He’s just whining by the water, looking all sad. All the while, the video Jenny made for Bette and Tina is running every other scene or so. People saying their good bye messages. Lots of people from past episodes, it was nice to have a tiny recap of characters from the past seasons. Ivan, Peggy Peabody, Jodi, Marina, CARMEN (and damn she did look beautiful, that was a nice little gift from the L Word gods), Kit, Helena, Alice, the rest of the girls, and others I’m sure I missed. All the while, we’re being reminded of how nice Jenny can be when she wants,
and Alice comes in crying. ‘It’s Jenny“. Now at this point, I am fighting my tears, I can’t stand Jenny, but damn will I miss her drama. Then we’re where we were in the very first episode, 8 weeks ago. And the story comes full circle. I have to admit, I was a bit more emotional this time around. They all bond together when they need to. The cop comes in to talk to them, they are all grief stricken. The cop asks them to come down to the station (which is where this episode started). They all arrive at the police station looking all worn out and distraught. Then….my girls….Bette and Tina smile, then we get shots of everyone smiling, walking toward the camera, wind in the hair. It was a nice way to end
it, nice glamour shots of all the actresses. They even had Jenny come out looking beautiful in a golden dress. (there was something airy about her, and I mean airy like airhead…LOL.) She is too cute. Annoying, but cute. A classy way to end it. oh, just as another side note, I noticed there was no music during the end credits. I thought that was a nice touch, almost like the silence after something real great. They tied up all the plots, there were only a few little strings I’m not sure about. But the last episode left me feeling good, no cliff hangers, nothing to really ponder. It was a good finale.
Last words; Jenny – “You guys, um, you guys changed my life. Wow, you really did. And I’m never going to forget you. So thank you for everything. K? That’s it”
It’s over, the end of something that will hopefully be just the beginning of better things to come. I truly hope this show has paved the way for future lesbian and gay shows. It’s been a wonderful 6 years, looking forward to every Sunday. To sit on my sofa with my partner and watch a show that I can relate to. I will definitely be the proud owner of The L Word box sets, Seasons 1-6
CHEERS!!
