Midtown Part 1

midtown-part-1

Do you miss The L Word? Well do we have a solution for you! TLL is happy to introduce Midtown, a fictional lesopera. Midtown is a weekly look into the lives of lesbian women in Atlanta written by Alix from the blog A Brown Girl. A new installment of Midtown will be published every Tuesday on The Lesbian Lifestyle. Please check out Alix’s blog and drop her a comment to let her know how you feel about the ladies of Midtown.

midtown1Atlanta hadn’t quite gotten the memo. It was still March. Still technically winter. The grass shouldn’t be green. The flowers shouldn’t be blossoming. And Piedmont Park shouldn’t be so alive at sunrise. The sidewalks were full of health conscious runners and walkers sweating to the sounds of a still awakening city.

Eva Daniels and her girlfriend, Taylor Collins, were among the active health -conscious who covered the sidewalks of the park with their long strides. The sight of them together always caused curious glances. Even in the early morning’s grogginess, the other park goers still found enough energy to cast questioning but approving glances.

Eva Daniels, Ed to those that were close to her, was taller than the average woman by a few inches. A white tank glued to her body by her own sweat highlighted her dark brown skin. Small neat locs held together in two huge braids hung midway down her back. A blue fitted ball cap protected dark eyes from the sun. Her ill fitting sweat pants revealed the waistband of men’s briefs attached to barely swelling hips. A pair of brightly colored running shoes completed her look.

Taylor was traditionally pretty. Blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin. She was a few inches shorter than Ed, but her body was thicker, more curvy. She wore a hot pink sports bra revealing ample cleavage and a well toned stomach. White terry cloth shorts highlighted thick thighs and a hint of a brightly colored thong. Her feet were moving so fast in her pink sneakers, the park looked as though it was being smeared in pink lipstick.

“Ed! Dammit, you know my legs aren’t as long as yours…” Ed started laughing and stopped next to a park bench overlooking the water. She sat down and chuckled softly to herself. “You do this to me every single morning…”

“And yet you still insist on coming to run with the grown ups,” Ed leaned over placing a moist kiss on Taylor’s thin lips. Taylor grabbed the back of Ed’s head adding her own intensity to the kiss. Ed’s hands slid around Taylor’s bare waist, her nails grazing her skin eliciting a gasp from Taylor. “Let’s finish this at home…”

Taylor guided Ed’s hand underneath her shorts, underneath the thong, to the wetness between her legs. Taylor held Ed’s hand in position. Ed kissed her way to Taylor’s neck and bit her firmly. Her hand alternated between massaging circles around her clit to sliding in deep and caressing her inner walls. It didn’t take long for Taylor to reach an orgasm.

Ed laughed at her. “You’re too easy. Come on, I need to get you headed out to work. You know how your boss is.”

Ed caught a glimpse of herself in the window’s glass as she approached the door to her business. She looked around her as she unlocked the door. It was her day to open so that her manager could have a late day to run a few errands. She walked through the bookstore, straightening a few items that were out of place. She was settled with her paper and bottled apple juice when she felt her pocket vibrate. She looked at her phone and smiled.

“Wassup, bro! What’s tha deal?”

“Umm, excuse? What’s up with the ghetto talk?!” Evan Daniels giggled. Evan was Ed’s older brother by 2 minutes and he never let her forget it. They were completely identical, both completely gay and completely inseparable. They had inherited the bookstore together though Ed handled the day to day management. Evan was more involved in his real estate business.

“What are you up to?” Ed could hear movement in Evan’s background.

“Moving things into the house… You ready?” Evan had found a house within walking distance to both of their offices. They could barely afford the high priced property considering the close proximity to Piedmont Park, but they had really good friends that were available to share the space and make it more affordable and convenient for them all.

“Hell, yeah… Wait… You’re moving things?”

“Now you know better than that, honey. I’ve got a few muscular friends that are helping me.”

“You hired movers?”

“Ummm, no, but they will be getting tips,” Evan chuckled at his own innuendo.

“Eeew!! TMI, bro!” Ed laughed. She heard her employees starting to come in. “Listen, some of us have to work, so I gotta go. I’ll see you at the house later…” She ended the call and went to sales floor.

The first person she saw was Adaeze Okoro or Dae. A chocolate brown skinned Nigerian with very little of her original accent, Dae was quiet, some might even say shy, except when she had a microphone in her hand. Her voice gave her all of the confidence she needed to exude charm and personality on stage. She was Taylor’s closet friend and confidant.

“Cute hair, Dae,” Ed noticed Dae’s change from her normal ponytail to small twists almost tickling the bottom that definitely came from Mother Africa. “Doing something different for the show tomorrow?”

Dae felt her cheeks turn warm at the compliment. “Thanks, Ed. Yeah, just seeing how the crowd reacts.” She lowered her eyes and straightened out the black vest that was part of their uniform. A yellow t-shirt offered stark contrast against her skin. She ducked behind the counter and started preparing the coffee bar for opening.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Ki. Ki attracted attention wherever she went because of her unique sense of style and love of bright color. Ki’s short dark hair was long in the front covering one slanted eye. Long eyelashes were constantly fluttering on the other. She wore her standard black vest, skinny black jeans, black low top Converse’s and a black bow tie. Her color came from the bright orange button down shirt she wore underneath her vest. Her square framed glasses sat on top of her head. This was her Assistant Manager, one of her new housemates and one of her closest friends.

“What’s up, dude?” They greeted each other with a quick hand bump. “Where is Taylor?” Ed rolled her eyes. “Late as usual, huh? Yo, I gotta tell you about this fine piece of ass I met last night.”

“Another fine piece of ass, huh? When are you going to settle down with one girl?”

“When one girl can handle all of this…”Ki gestured to include her entire body. Ed knew that Ki was a handful. Even though she could be seen with a different girl almost every night of the week, she wasn’t sleeping with any of them. That simple fact caused Ki the most trouble. Her dates saw her celibacy as rejection or betrayal. She had to be getting it from somewhere.

Just before the store opened, Taylor showed up. She strutted over to Ed, “Is my boss mad?” She whispered as she batted her bright blue eyes. Ed looked down at her, passed her eyes, down into a view of soft round cleavage. A slight smile appeared on her face before she disappeared into her office.

Taylor made her way over to Dae. “I’m glad you got something done to your nappy head before tomorrow. Your hair looked busted yesterday. Can you imagine going on a stage looking like that?” Dae barely acknowledged Taylor’s presence. “Girl, do you hear me talkin’ to you?” Dae looked up from what she was doing just as Heather, one of the new employees walked up.

Heather had been at the store for less than a week and had become Taylor’s pet. A white girl with shocking red hair, she was constantly begging for Taylor’s attention. “Umm, I don’t mean to interrupt…” She looked over at Dae and then back at Taylor. “Are we still on for tonight? I mean, the party…?”

“Yeah, you coming?” Dae rolled her eyes at Taylor’s obvious choice of words.

“Of course! I wouldn’t miss it…” She giggled nervously before walking away.

“I’m gonna need your help to get her alone.”

“Sure, anything for you, buddy…” Dae smiled slyly.

Because I wear black too and sometimes break it up by wearing a brighter top, Ki is my favorite so far. And the part about her being celibate is cool because dating alot doesn’t have to mean a woman is loose.
