GUEST POST: Don’t Lick The Ferrets
I was very sheltered as a child and young adult. I didn’t have first hand experience with the gay community until I did an AIDS Ride and realized I didn’t HAVE to date men (and I finally understood WHY I never did well in relationships (or the bedroom) with them.
I immediately began dating women and found myself.
My family was less than pleased and pressured me into marriage with a man. I had just had my heart broken by my first true girlfriend and I really didn’t care what happened to me.
Fast forward four years and I have cut off all contact with my parents, divorced my husband and am in an amazing relationship with a woman I love and adore (my second relationship since my divorce about three years ago…both with women.)
I may have lost a great deal, but what I have gained (self respect, independence, happiness, satisfaction…) more than makes up for those losses.
My family is who I make it….and my family is gay!
