TLL Adult Review: Alumination
| Hot: |
The Alumination vibrator, by Doc Johnson, was kindly given to me for review by SexToys. The Alumination is 6″ long and made of aluminum and ABS. ABS plastic is a hard plastic composite which is durable but not completely non-porous so you shouldn’t share this with a friend unless you’re regularly swapping fluids on your own. It does have low-porosity and is hard and smooth plastic-y material so it’s not like it’s unsafe. I just thought it was made of solid aluminum, so the fact that it’s got plastic at all is a bummer. It’s water proof, has three speeds – low, medium, and high – and takes two AAA batteries. It’s described as “sleek and shiny as a shimmering jet” and “as sexy as a vibe can get.” We’ll see. Read on.
Criticisms
- The tip is ABS. I’d really prefer it to be all aluminum. I’m not sure why they designed it this way, but I just don’t like the feel of the ABS on my clit when I know it could be the perfectly slick-smooth aluminum. The ABS has slight drag, even when lubed, that adds friction. It’s not too bad, it probably wouldn’t bother most people, but I wish it were aluminum tipped. I thought it WAS all aluminum.
- It takes 2 AAAs. It is more than large enough to take AAs. There’s extra plastic bulk that takes up the extra space.
- It’s on the loud side. It’s not super loud, but it’s probably audible through blankets. Not through walls, but probably through blankets. On a scale from 0 (your hand) – 10 (a jet plane) Loudness Scale, this gets a 4.5. It’s loud-ish. Not a deal breaker, but loudish.
The Up-Side
- It’s solid. I like the feel of it in my hand using it, because it’s a solid metal shaft, and has nice weight to it.
- The battery compartment is easy to get into and is sturdy. A lot of battery compartments are flimsy.
- The vibrations are strong, on the medium-to-low-rumbly range, and focused at the tip. On a scale from 0 (your hand) – 10 (Hitachi) Vibration Scale, I’d say this gets a … 6.5 – 7. Strong enough to do the job for probably 70% of people, maybe 65%.
- Multiple speeds. Yes.
- Available in Black, Pink and Gold. Mine’s gooooooooold. I like gooooooold.
Final Thoughts
My criticisms aren’t huge, but it’s described as “virtually silent” which it is not. Additionally, I’ve got to be honest, I was disappointed to discover it was partly ABS. It’s called Alumination, I was expecting aluminum, call me crazy. Overall, for the price it is, this is a nice solid toy, which is discreet, functional, and rather versatile. It’s not good for insertion in my opinion, as it is very slender (though that might be just what some prefer and are looking for – everyone is different!). This is mainly a clitoral vibrator, but does feel nice inserted shallowly to stimulate the nerves at the opening of the vagina.
Overall, I’m going to give this toy a 6.5. It’s a good solid toy, but if you’ve got a few others, this isn’t too terribly exciting. It’s not as quiet as they say, but it’s fairly strong, which almost makes up for it. This would make a nice toy for yourself, or for a friend who might be new to toys and looking for something easy to use, easy to clean (soap and water) and discreet. I noticed that it looks a lot like another aluminum toy I’ve seen around, and am following this review up with a comparison review of the two. If you’d like to get an Alumination for yourself, head on over to SexToys and check them out for yourself!

I had been curious about this one. Nice to read your review!
