Maine :(

maine
Hot:

I was reading an article on the election in Maine today, and although it was a fairly positive article in regards to the “No on 1″ campaign, there were a couple sentences that when I read them… they stung. Like a slap in the face. Not gonna lie, I started crying. While the comment itself wasn’t something to cry over, Maine rejecting gay marriage is.

“At one busy intersection in Portland Tuesday, five “Yes on 1” activists stood on a median and hoisted “Yes on 1” placards, yelling “Vote Yes on 1 –No Homosexuals!” to drivers passing by. The lawn surrounding the intersection was bathed in bright blue and yellow “Yes on 1” signs, while the “No on 1” sported only two large hand-painted signs.

On one occasion, a car zipped by and a woman yelled out the window, “I voted no!” But many cars honked and their drivers waved, seeming to signal agreement with the “Yes on 1” position.”

It’s upsetting, exasperating, frustrating, and makes me feel rather hopeless.

Another article contained the following, and I quote..

“Ellen Sanford McDaniel, 35, of Fairfield, Maine, said she’s relieved the referendum passed, rejecting gay marriage. “I don’t feel anybody has the right to redefine marriage,” she said. “I would have been heartbroken for our country if it did not pass… We had a prayer night last night for it to go the way it should.”"

Now that, that just made me angry.

Jesse Helms and Newt Gingrich were shaking hands congratulating themselves on the introduction of an antigay bill in Congress. If it passes, they won’t be able to shake hands, because it will then be illegal for a prick to touch an asshole. — Judy Carter
