tll-approved Thanks to Babeland for all the Rough Sex. Er… that came out wrong. The DVD Rough Sex, that is. These days I find myself recommending Rough Sex to a lot of people at work. There are lots of men who come in looking for a porno their girlfriends might wanna watch. I wish more straight women would just come and straight up ask about pornos themselves, but seems their all out in the car sending their dudes in about it. The men always say the woman is “shy” and like, “innocent” or something. I’m not down with this. The dykes that come in, however, dig into the porn happily. Way to go, my sisters.

While Rough Sex might not be something all lesbians and queer gals would necessarily be into, I really liked it. What I love about this film was how they went at it. The premise was to fulfill the fantasies of the women involved. They started with five women and asked them what rough sex acts or scenario they wanted to act out in this film, and had them choose their costar. This NEVER happens in porn! So rather than being paired with some random dude, they chose who they were going to be having sex with. So naturally, this made it better in all instances. I also really really like Sasha Grey. I may have said this before. Some of the scenes are definitely better than others tho.

“Adrianna is in the shower and thinks she’s alone.” For example, my least favorite scene was probably scene one. Adrianna is pretty and cute, but Marco, her male costar, makes terrible terrible faces. I’ll spare you picture proof.
“Satine is stranded on a deserted road until a good samaritan stops to help.” Scene two is great because of the chemistry between Satine, who reminds me of Angela Montenegro from Bones, and Derrick who is strangely irresistible. The two of them start flirting and the flirting actually lasts a little while, and it’s like genuine flirting and it made me smile. It was really cute and hot. When the sex starts, it’s intense. Derrick does the whole dirty talking, choking slapping thing and does it well. At times I felt it was almost too far, but not quite.
“Francesca is tired of being taken for granted.” Christian is a powerful businessman and is yelling at employees on the phone while Francesca is anxious for attention. She reminds me a bit of Shiela from Rescue Me. She puts on a sexy outfit and punishes him for ignoring her. It’s hot because he’s a big guy and she totally dominates him. He doesn’t laugh off her efforts, he’s totally in the game. I love that. It’s a good scene.
“When Marie gets caught in a lie, she faces the consequences.” Not my favorite scene. The theme is cheating. Marie gets caught cheating on her boyfriend, Julius, who punishes her with sex. I don’t know why I don’t like it that much. Big combo of the cheating, her particular moans, and the end shot of her licking cum off the mirror. Squicks me out every time.
“Sasha explores her submissive side, then flips the script and takes control.” This scene was like candy for me. I wanted to start there because I was horny, but I didn’t wanna waste it. Sasha and Danny start out playing pool, discussing their likes and limits, and then they jump into it. Sasha says she really just hates having her breasts slapped, and no fingering (because men do it wrong. Sasha, come over here, I’ll show you that girls do it better). Danny and Sasha are smoking hot together. There’s a serious power play, and it gets intense. They’re all caught up in the moment, and Danny accidentally slips and slaps one of Sasha’s boobs. It’s here that she says, “Oh, you’re in trouble now,” and turns the tables. And oh, god, does she.

The standout thing I take from the film, and the message (yes, a moral to the porn) that I feel people will take away is that women can script their desires and it can be hot. We don’t have to want one particular thing or be ashamed of wanting anything at all. I hope that women who watch this, the women whose husbands and boyfriends (and girlfriends?) come to my porn shop and buy Rough Sex, think to themselves, “I might want to try role-playing a scene like this. Watching these women negotiate their desires with their partners, set limits and choose safe words has helped me enter into a conversation of my own with my own partner. I think next time, I might like to try a little hair pulling.” And I also hope everyone who watches this watches the Choking & Safety bit in the DVD, because I found that to be most informative. You learn something kinky every day!
