OUTRAGE: The Outing Of Hypocrite Politicians

Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)

Outrage, A Documentary on Showtime. WHAT WOULD SAPPHO SAY? She and any other higher powers you believe in would feel its name. This film is a following of the few journalists who feel a calling to expose the hypocrites that are making the laws in Washington as legislators. These politicians are voting as anti-gay as possible while living a double life – the married, 2.4 kids, Christian Coalition backed, family values guys leading the charge against gays and lesbians in all policies.

They started with voting against the Hate Crime Non-Discrimination Bill, compromised on the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell declaration, moved on the Federal Anti-Discrimination Acts, next attacked the Defense of Marriage Act defining marriage as a bond between one man and one woman, and now have a huge political machine that is moving from state to state to ensure when gay marriage is on the ballot, enough money is funded through their several damning organizations to insure failure of these laws.

WE CAN ALL FEEL THEIR POWER BY THE DEBAUCLE THAT HAPPENED IN CALIFORNIA. They had more resources, volunteers, and lies to spread through the neighborhoods to bring out a vote that had no clue what was really on the table. Fiction ruled the day and untruths became the gasoline that lit a match that started a blaze of misinformation that took down the most loving and accepting state in the country back three steps in a state with the some of the gayest cities in the country – San Francisco, Los Angeles, Berkley, Palm Springs, San Diego, Laguna Beach, La Jolla and Black’s Beach and so many more… Even in the inland towns of Sacramento, Fresno, Orange County, Paso Robles, and the like, gays and lesbian find happiness among their neighbors and if we cannot defeat then in the great Bear state, more of us must get involved on every level of local, city, county, state and national politics and SOON.

The timing couldn’t be better here in Houston. We have an amazingly, brilliant, strong-willed, grass-roots candidate that is growing in supporters and volunteers every day running for Mayor of the great city of Houston – ANNISE PARKER. She is one of us and so far poised to face Locke in a run-off election. With her amazing plans for Houston as well as her widespread support, now is the time to read up on her campaign and get involved to help this Sapphic woman and change the history of Houston politics. A win would make her the first Mayor hailing from the island of Lesbos to run a city this large. NOW IS THE TIME TO GET INVOLVED. You can visit her bountiful website at www.AnniseParker.com. Check it out and see where you might fit in even if it’s just a sign in your yard.

I recently was given a 5-point path to increase happiness in one’s life while connecting with humanity, project good into the world, centering yourself, and creating an atmosphere for personal growth. I thought I’d pass them on.

• Observe a Sabbath. It can be any day of the week where the phones are set to vibrate (if you just can’t turn them off) and new rituals and activities are accomplished that differ than very other day of the week. Something that takes you away from the hustle and bustle, the ties to electronics, and gives you joy for joys sake just one day a week.
• TYTHE. Give some of your money or if your poor or struggle like so many of us give your time to an organization that incorporates one of your passions. Teach kids your arts. Read to the elderly. Tutor or mentor a person of any age. Join a preexisting organization you have always had respect for what they do. They world is your oyster and a few hours a week will bring many more back in gratitude.
• Take Time for Yourself. This could be meditation, journaling, yoga, prayer, anything that inspires you to be at one with yourself and take the time each day to reflect on the moments you were completely present for.
• Consider your shopping experiences, where you spend your money, and to whom the profits go. This one is a big one and will require ethical and moral dilemmas that clash time after time. Try to so to the Mom and Pop establishments and give your dollars locally so the wonderful quirks that make this city the diverse mecca of cultures and surprises around unknown corners can stay in business and keep us out of the chain store that just perpetuate a downward spiral of quality and price gouging that is marketed as soon as the clothing comes off the assembly line. TJ Maxx and Marshalls is built into Ralph Lauren and Nine West’s marketing strategy and some of the best clothes I found are at the smaller boutiques that buy from specific (no child labor or Made in USA) boutiques or Consignment shops. Anyone whose been to the Galleria knows that the stitching in a $500 shirt is no different than that of a $100 shirt and believe me girls, we’re not in New York City and as long as you’re not too drunk the label should be worn on the inside of the shirt!!

Now again, I am a bit of a label whore and have spent I few bucks on things I did not need nor did anyone notice the different between a Bandalino and a Jimmy Cho. Again I say, LESBIANS = HOUSTON = NOT NEW YORK. Unless you’re a glutton for punishment or it’s a purse you’re really after (I am totally attracted to a woman with too many handbags – it’s not my style, just another fetish) or a shoe that makes me go a little mad, STAY AWAY FROM THE GALLERIA. Check out Rice Village or the Heights. Leave the big box chain stores alone and share your wealth with the local economy. I think Macy’s (2 of them for God’s sake) and Saks are doing just fine without us!!! Then again, it’s all a balance. Some things have an impact on others in a positive way when you buy on the larger scale by the number of employees, the importing of fabrics and thus a global impact on other, poorer countries. It’s all about living in the present and shopping with thought. How does this money impact the world and my local, sustainable, beautiful city that I don’t want to turn into only Walmart’s and Macy’s and gigantic malls. I want more independent coffee shops, pharmacies, hardware stores, tea shops, small neighborhood restaurants that feel coveted by the area residents in a way that keeps these businesses thriving and our city unique.

Well, that’s just little old me in my 2 year-old Nine West boots or my 13 year-old, Texas-made, Tony Lamas snake skins. We can all stretch ourselves to be more enigmatic in this way and not slaves to the internet and the chain stores or we will be sorry when that is all that’s left. That’s just little old me though.

They are just a few things to think about.
