The Lezzy Award Winners Announced!

Thank you to all who participated in this years Lezzy Awards. It was great to see some old time favorite and new blogs nominated in the 11 categories. Without further ado here are the 2009 Lezzy Award winners!

Entertainment/Culture

Dorothy Surrenders: This is Dorothy Surrenders 4th Lezzy Award! The blog has stood the test of time in the lesbian blogging community and once again has claimed the Entertainment/Culture Lezzy Award. The blog is part entertainment, part guilty pleasure, with a dash of visual indulgence. Dare I say that her blog is the lesbian version of Perez Hilton without the ridiculous drawings on the photos and better copy. This blog, along with all the others winners is a must on every lesbian blog roll.

Runners Up: AutoStraddle & Fit For A Femme

Humor

Grace The Spot: For the second year in a row Grace The Spot has taken home the Humor Lezzy Award! Grace the Spot is an entertainment, lifestyle, pop culture and current events blog founded by a couple of lesbians in New York City when they were a couple. Although they are no longer a couple, the blog lives on. The blog has a great redesign and must be doing something right because the ladies love it. Visit Grace The Spot to laugh when you’re down or simple just because.

Runners Up: Just Like Jesse James & Peaches & Coconuts

Parenting

Up Popped A Fox: Nominated last year this is Up Popped A Fox’s first Lezzy Award for the Parenting category.  So, what the heck does “Up Popped A Fox” mean anyway? Well, “Up Popped A Fox” is actually an interjection used to express surprise. It never made it into that catchy interjection song on School House Rock but I assure you that it is, in fact, an interjection. I write about the unexpected things in life that make me think…or laugh…or both. A great example of family, Up Popped A Fox is a wonderful retreat for a great and informative read.

Runners Up: Lesbian Dad & Mombian

Engagement/Wedding

My Big Fat Gay Wedding: Wedding planning with a homo twist! Alison and Irene are getting married in NYC on October 10, 2010. Until then, we’ll be sharing the good, the bad and the ugly of planning our big fat gay wedding. Alison and Irene met in 2003 on Craigslist. Alison posted an ad, and Irene answered it. They had their first date at the Cubbyhole and 6 months later they moved in together. Congratulations ladies and keep us posted on the wedding!

Runners Up: Don’t Lets Talk & living a loving life as wife and wife

Feminist/Political

Feministing.com: Another Lezzy first Feministing.com has walked away with the best Lesbian Feminist/Political Blog. Young women are rarely given the opportunity to speak on their own behalf on issues that affect their lives and futures. Feministing provides a platform for us to comment, analyze, influence and connect. Feministing is an online community for feminists and their allies. The community aspect of Feministing – our community blog, rating system, and related social networking sites (our Facebook group, YouTube page, and Meetup Alliance) – exist to better connect feminists online and off, and to encourage activism. We hope that the Feministing community will provide a forum for a variety of feminist voices and organizations.

Runners Up: Dear Diaspora & Fannie’s Room

Personal

Peaches & Coconuts: This is the second year Peaches & Coconuts has been nominated for a Lezzy Award and this is the year the blog is taking one home! Female, male, butch, femme, gay, straight, trans, queer (et al) – I reckon we’re all a bunch of fruits and nuts no matter where we live or how we live or which bits are attached. This blog will make you laugh and beware of it’s addictive qualities. It’s a must read for all! Thanks for sharing your stories!

Runners Up: Up Popped A Fox & Just Like Jesse James

Out later in life

Making Space: Per the blogs About Section Making Space is about “Musings on making a life by making space. Life, love, laughter, and decluttering!” Who can’t use a little of all that. This is one of the new nominees for 2009 and we are happy to see more women writing about their experiences. Her following must be loyal because she got a ton of votes. Be sure to make some space on your feed reader for Making Space.

Runners Up: GrumpyGranny’s Weblog & My Montana Blu

Sex/Short Story/Erotica

Sugarbutch Chronicles: This is Sugarbutch’s 3rd Lezzy Award! Sinclair has a way with the ladies and the devout following to prove it. She is a chivalrous kinky queer butch top, feminist, gender theorist, sex educator, activist, and writer in New York City. Sugarbutch Chronicles is a personal writing exploration of sex, gender, and relationships, and attempts to celebrate queer theory, sexuality, gender, culture, and identity in ways that are expansive rather than restrictive, liberating rather than limiting.

Runners Up: Sexuality Happens & Scintillectually Yours

The Lesbian Lounge podcast is packed full of special guests, celebrity interview, with an equal opportunity towards perversion. The show is broadcast live every Wednesday from 9-11 pm EDT.
