The Haters Still Hate With A Vengeance, and An Audience
What Would Sappho Say?
Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)
We all are aware of Rush Limbaugh and his particular right-wing rhetoric that somehow through drug addiction and indictment for doctor shopping his popularity still reaches a minimum of 13.5 million listeners weekly. Just to give you a peek at how scary that number really is, Oprah reaches only twice as many viewers in the US each week. I say only not to discount Oprah as 26 million people is an amazing number for a daytime talk show to reach but Rush Limbaugh reaches half as many? Really? I’m terrified by that statistic. I would think he would reach 10% of her stats, but no where near half.
Rush, however, is the bad guy we all know. There are so many others out there doing far more damage that we all need to get acquainted with and I am only going to tackle a one of the majors here and I urge you all to at the very least become members of The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch FaceBook Page and/or The Hatewatch website AND at the very most check out the list of haters and their rhetoric at the bottom of today’s blog. This organization is dedicated to keeping an eye on the Radical Right. The Hatewatch blog hunts down those racist, homophobes parading about in the name of conservative politics and religion and outs their true colors by uncovering the truth of their actions. So please, if you care about the progress of democracy and human rights in this country, get involved and join the FaceBook page. If not subscribe to the blog itself.
Right now their are fourteen hate groups listed by the Center each with their own vile anti-gay and other defamatory hate speech to earn them such an honor. The criteria to reach this list is not something that sets the bar low by any means or we all know their would be oodles of churches and Anti-Gay groups on the list. No, these fourteen reach a new level of hatred, and a fifteenth, not a group but a website of one man, J. Matt Barber, has chopped wood to add fire to the anti-gay movement in any way he can.
Here is just a highlight of what some of these groups on the SPLC’s radar are spewing to the world of the radical right and Christians in general. In Uganda, a law now rests before their Parliament asking for the death penalty for “aggrevated homosexuality”, or knowingly transmitting AIDS from one person to another. With limited testing available, this is just a ruse for the punishment of homosexuality in general spearheaded by an address to said Parliament by Scott Lively, President of Defend the Family, one of the SPLC fourteen. He now says he never intended the death penalty to be the punishment but in his article to his followers he claims the following:
“Ugandan citizens report a growing number of foreign homosexual men coming to their country to turn desperately poor young men from the slums into their personal houseboys, and that some girls in public schools have being paid to recruit others into lesbianism.”
Now this is the first law in a century that has criminalized homosexuality instead of worked to decriminalize it and Scott Lively is at the forefront of it. Each of these fourteen groups and one man are working hard to change the course of history from the forward momentum of the gay movement to a reversal of fortune and to send us back anywhere they can. If not here in the US, then in the underdeveloped countries where the Christians God brought by the missionaries still can manipulate them as they do not know much more than what was taught to them from the late 1800’s.
I have given you but one example of these groups but would implore you to simply click on the following fifteen websites and just read a few words so you know what the opposition is saying about us. Knowledge has always been power and you need to know that these sites have quite an audience just as Rush Limbaugh has. It is time to get involved if only to give a bit of money or volunteer some time to the Human Rights Campaign Fund or Lambda Legal Defense Fund.
So take a look at the following: Abiding Truth Ministry; America Forever; Americans For Truth About Homosexuality; American Vision; Article 8.org; Biblical Family Advocates; The Chalcedon Foundation; The Chalcedon Store; Faithful Word Baptist Church; Family Research Institute; H.O.M.E.: Heterosexuals Organized for a Moral Environment; Mass Resistance; Traditional Values Coalition; Watchmen On The Walls; and the J. Matt Barber Column.
Now that is a lot of hate to digest in one sitting, but know that even though there is still an audience for all that crap, it is dwindling. We just have to stay vigilant and keep the fight going on our side because they are not going away, only trying to gain steam as we pull ahead. We must all stick together with our heterosexual brethren that love and support us. This fight is winnable but it is about winning for the whole world, including the men and women of Uganda.
Much Love.

QUOTES OF THE DAY
In the end antiblack, antifemale, and all forms of discrimination are equivalent to the same thing – antihumanism.
Shirley Chisholm
From the viewpoint of absolute truth, what we feel and experience in our ordinary daily life is all delusion. Of all the various delusions, the sense of discrimination between oneself and others is the worst form, as it creates nothing but unpleasant.
Dalai Lama
