TLL Adult Review: Outlaw Syd Harness

Outlaw Harnesses are different from other leather harnesses on the market for a few reasons. They are designed to sit very low in front, so that the base of the dildo is positioned over the pubic bone to put indirect pressure on the clit. The Syd, and any harness Outlaw offers, comes complete with a 2″ metal O-ring and a black nitrile rubber one you can swap out on a whim, a snappable back piece on the “driver pad” area to allow easy insertion of larger based dildos, a velvety storage bag, and a badass product name, such as Syd, or Clyde, or Annie-O (The Annie-O was actually my first harness crush, back in the day before I ever had any sex toys).

FYI, nitrile rubber isn’t latex, so latex allergy peeps? You’re A-OKAY.

The Syd harness, while clearly more badass looking than their other offerings, still offers the same design and fit. The additions they have made include a two piece back band with a suede center piece, a safety pin closure (don’t worry, they’re smooshed so they can never open up and poke you in the butt), and metal pyramid stud strips on each back piece, and more studs on the front over the hole the dildo goes through (see in the pic?).

Syd is available in red patent and black patent, with black leather details. Mine, however, is blue leather, which conveniently matches my assorted collection of tattoos, and thus proves that Outlaw can potentially do you a custom order if you just drop them a line and ask if they have the time to do so. They’re also very nice folks. And they’re located in Seattle. So if any of you guys are near Seattle, go check them out! Also, all their construction is done in-house. Can you say “Made in the USA”?

The Good

The Good is very, very good. The fit is superior. The quality is excellent. The versatility of being able to use dildos like the Share, or two flare based dildos (one aimed at your lover, one aimed at your vagina), or even tuck a G-Ki between the leather and yourself is all very excellent. The colored leathers are gorgeous. Pictures don’t do it justice. I want to hang the thing on my wall. It’s like art. And the fact that it comes with a velvet drawstring storage bag is great, because you’re not going to be wearing your Syd harness all the time. (Click the image to enlarge.)

The Bad

The bad is not actually bad. And it doesn’t reflect on their whole line, just the Syd. The stuff in the back, with the two pieced thing, the suede connector, the safety pins… that stuff is bulky. And the bottom bit? A little pointy. This isn’t a problem 99% of the time, when you’re walking, thrusting, moving about, having sex while standing, doing the happy penis dance, etc., but if you’re on the bottom (on your back with someone astride your fantastical Syd) you’ll want to be a little careful. Be not laying on your back on a table, a wooden box, the kitchen floor, a marbled counter top, a hot tin roof, the hood of a Mustang, or a workbench in a carpentry studio because it’s gonna be uncomfortable. Also, you’re gonna fuck up the Mustang, dude. I suggest you be on a bed, a sofa, the soft grass, a hay bale, a pile of pillows, freshly laundered… er, laundry, or what have you. Something soft. Mind you, these are just guidelines.

Also, nothing Outlaw makes is vegan. If you’re vegan, you’ll need to shop elsewhere. (Again, to see the picture bigger, click on it.)

My Advice/Opinion on How To Choose What To Get

I have my own opinions about how to choose a strap on harness for yourself, which are really just suggestions.

People often get them when they’re in a relationship, and they choose something they think will work for both people. And do you know what? Most of the time, that works kinda okay for each person, but not necessarily great for either if there are big style and size differences. Regardless, do what works for you. If you and your partner want to agree on something, go for it! That can definitely be fun and open discussion in a relationship. Furthermore, the harness then becomes an object that is based in the relationship. It’s something you two use together. If the relationship ends, or if you’ll be having sex with more than one partner, they suggest you get another harness for hygiene purposes. I might not do that, but they do say it’s a good idea.

My opinion is still that a person needs to feel a connection with their dick (dildo) and that a harness is like shoes. Get your own damned shoes.

So, Rule number one of harness selection: Buy your own harness. Choose something that both fits your body as well as your personality. Even within the same style, there are color options. It’s important that the harness is something that makes you feel good. If you feel like you look stupid in it, this is going to translate into a lack of confidence and lead to not-so-good sex. (Note: nothing you buy from Outlaw will make you look stupid, but I’d still feel a bit silly in a pink harness.)

Rule number two of harness selection: Measure the fullest part of your hips. And then trust that measurement. In truth, you’ll be surprised and probably you’re going to snug up your harness a couple inches smaller than the measurement you take. That’s just the nature of the beast. It’s a harness. You want it to stay up, so it’s going to be snug.

Pointers for bigger gals. I seriously, wholeheartedly endorse getting an Outlaw harness if you are on the larger size. I currently wear something like a 24 in jeans, and my hips are 52″ish last time I checked. And the Syd worked well, and I wasn’t on the last hole on either belt strap AKA a larger person could fit in it. I have a small butt, so I rely on the back strap tugged high over my hips to keep it up. Ladies with a bigger butt will have an even easier time keeping it up. No pun intended.

In conclusion, I’d really like to extend a big thank you to Outlaw Leather who not only provided the review sample but made it custom. If you’re looking for the custom angle, trying to get a harness to match an outfit or other gear you’ve got (floggers, paddles?) then I’d go to Outlaw if I were you. They have lots of styles, lots of colors, and some pretty hot images around the site. And they’re at Etsy, so you can buy directly from them! I wholeheartedly recommend checking them out.
