My Not-So-Guilty Pleasures
Once in a while I go ego-tripping. I take excursions with myself. I need that to refill my creative reservoir. Each year I try to take at least one trip by myself lasting minimum 1 week.
Last year I didnt manage really. I mean, I travelled alone, but I went to visit relatives (in Sarasota, Florida) and once in Austria near Salzburg – the same relatives. I love them a lot.
The year before I went to Vienna for a week in October – I drank my way through the gigantic coffee-menus in historical cafés for hours on end. I spent a day entirely tracing empress Sisi visiting aaaaall her residences and the museum in the Hofburg dedicated to her. I bought antique silver chandeliers (another guilty pleasure – I collect them), took hundreds of fotos.
The same year but in spring, the isle of Rügen in the Baltic Sea. A lovely wellness hotel, the beach 5 minutes off, collecting amber on the shore, having a glass of wine wrapped in blankets on a café terrace. I remember reading “The Wind-up Bird Chronicles” by Haruki Murakami and taking long walks.
Now in June, i. e. just a month from now I will go to Amsterdam for a week. I will delve into culture. My hotel is situated in the museum’s quartier – so I’ll be in direct vicinity to Van Gogh, Vermeer, Rembrandt… Apart from that I intend to roam the streets, take fotos – this time with my nice new camera. Sit in cafés (integral part – it shows up in all my holidays) observe life around me, sketch people and places (gives me a different feeling of a place than taking fotos). I want nice Indonesian food, shopping crazy clothes + handbags + shoes and chill in a coffee shop once in a while.
Gf in the last seven years has grumblingly learned to accept that i need that solo-time to retain my mental balance and sanity
she also benefits from my improved mood and “mental stability”…
Have nice holidays!
