gy-NO! Part 2 of My Lady Doctor Visit
I woke up at 8:30 on Friday and had a few seconds before my nerves reminded me it was Gyno Day 2010! My mind began to wander into an abyss of fear. But I was going to do it, I had to do it!!!
I waited until the last mintute to shower. Freshness, is a huge factor when a stranger is about to ask you to spread your legs open. After the shower I sat down and filled out the paperwork I had received from the doctors office a few weeks earlier.
Pregnencies = 0, Miscarragies = 0, no alergies, you know the drill. I left for the office about 20 minutes before my appointment. Knowing that if doctors are anything they are always usually running late. After almost getting backed into in the parking lot I found my way around the building and signed in. My Gyno is also a midwife, the office was full of baby magazines and pregnant women. My gay ass found itself in a corner reading Seventeen magazine. If I weren’t me I would have taken a picture of me just because that situation is never going to happen again.
After about 20 minutes the doctor called me back to her office. She is in her mid forties and had a genuine smile. She didn’t flinch when I told her my weight, sexuality, or the fact that this was my first time at the gyno. After about ten minutes of talking she directed me towards a room, advised me to take off all my clothes, and to put on a gown.
May I please interject here and say that all medical places should have a few gowns on hand for us larger folks. I was totally a fat girl in a little gown and was waitng for the sound of the seams in the shoulders of the gown to tear at any minute.
This, my friends ,is the moment I had been dreading. I sat on the table and she came back in the room. She pulled out the stirups and from this moment on she talked me through everything. There was a warm light on my vagina, I was staring at a poster of a water fall taped to the cieling, and the KY jelly was being used liberally. The bad part only lasted a few minutes and it wasn’t even really bad. Before I new it I was sitting up and back in the bathroom getting my clothes back on.
I can’t make anyone do anything, but I can tell you that if you haven’t been to the gyno yet I promise you it’s not as bad as you may think. Make sure you have a friend or family member reffer you to a good doctor. I preferred having a woman, but some women want a man. My thoughts were that who better than a woman to understand if I had any issues with my boday because she has a femle body too.
Make sure you are relaxed and talk to your gyno about any issues you may have. For me, it was almost like a mini therapy session. While you’re making your gyno appointment try to take some time to make other reoccuring appointment sfor mamograms or with your desnist for a cleaning. It is important that we take care of ourselves and each other. Don’t let fear stop you the way it did me. I will now happilly attend my yearly appointment to the gyno without fear or hesitation.
It’s a Gy-Yes! for me!
