The Real L-Word Blog Season 1 Episode 1 “Power of Clam” Blog, Review

The Short of it:  (as seen on Showtime.com) Tracy spends the weekend at her girlfriend Stamie’s house and strains to keep up with Stamie’s three little ones. Is she ready for the responsibility of full-time parenting?

Mikey has charged herself with producing the best Fashion Weekend LA has ever seen. After finding the perfect location for her client, she races off to receive an award from the Chamber of Commerce. She can’t wait to share her big night with Raquel, but she’s nowhere to be found and devastating news about the venue further riles Mikey.

Whitney is overwhelmed, both with Tor moving in and her complicated feelings for Sara. At a bar, she again runs into recent hookup, Romi — and this time their exchange ends in a kiss! Will Whitney be able to juggle all of these relationships?

Nikki and Jill are hoping to turn a book about ‘sexual fluidity’ into a documentary, a topic close to Jill. It comes into greater focus when her best friend Derek pays a visit and it’s revealed how close the two came to dating.

Rose and Natalie celebrate their seven-month anniversary with a romantic dinner followed by a steamy nightcap at home. Later, Rose’s father encourages Rose to reconcile with her estranged mother — their feud is tearing the family apart. With pressure from Natalie and her family mounting, Rose cuts loose at a debaucherous game night with friends but it quickly turns into a major blowout.

What I thinks:  The Girls

Mikey: Ok first, I was thinking I am not going to like this girl, she annoys the crap out of me with the whining with her GF and such, but then there was a moment when she was kicking the models out of her office and telling the modeling agency on the phone “to fuck off” and now I want her to be my besty, and hang out with her all the time.  She is ovaries to the wall fun, love chicks that stand up and simply say “fuck off” when they need to.

Nikki and Jill: The positive, they are so unbelievable cute with one another and the fact that they met at camp years ago as kids is adorable.  Love the fact that they are having a couple that is getting married on the show.  The moderately irritating:  I always am a little jealousy of gals that can spend money out the ass, and not even worry about it, so I was a little irritated/ jealous of that.  Nikki is a little skinny, and by a little, I mean super skinny, we can only hope that is her metabolism and genes and that Jill doesn’t need to be looking behind the toilet for bags of ….  you know what…..  But they are still adorable, really not enough to make me not like them.

Rose: Ok, maybe the only one I am not so sure I am liking after the first episode.  But I will attempt to pull something positive from this messy messy gal.  So lets look at the positive first, her family is freaking awesome.  Her Grandmother was so obviously full of nothing but adoration with Rose.  The not so good:  Not to be superficial but she had huge bags under her eyes, she has never been faithful to a single GF, and she isn’t certain she is going to be faithful to the new gal she is seeing, YUCKY

Tracy: There was never a moment when I didn’t like her.  She is a skater chick, and adorable.  Her mother and her are coming to terms with her being gay, so I totally dig they are exploring that part of being a “gay”.  She is also in a relationship with a gal who is recently separated from her baby mama, so their is the lesbian mother aspect they are exploring with her.  PS it was awesome to see a lesbian family even if it was a broken family (I hate that term but you get the idea)

Whitney: Love, Love, LOOOOOVEEEEE her.  She is that evil horrible thing that you know you shouldn’t adore, but then there she is.  She is so mindless with her ability to break the hearts.  The best moment in the first episode with Whitney was when she came out (kind of) and said “I am ok with lust, lust is fun, love is scary”.  Funny part is when they open the episode she is picking up friends from the airport and one of the gals she is picking up is a potential love interest.  Later on in the episode she is smoothing over a uncomfortable moment at the bar when a gal she has been seeing enters the scene, and they have to talk it out.  And at the very end of the episode she is dropping off the first girl at the airport and then picking up a new girl at a different gate.  WHO DOES THAT, but very entertaining.

So the SHOW: I am digging it, so far but we are only one episode in so, the verdict is still out.  But not to damn bad so far, and Showtime LOVE YOU they had a countdown at the bottom of the screen when the end of Tudors was rolling.

Till Next Week  Cheers!!!!!!

Ok, I don’t know if we were watching the same show. Maybe in Canada we are a little behind, as the first episode aired yesterday (21-Jun). When I found myself looking at the clock, and seeing that only 15min had past, I knew that I was in trouble! The real real L Word had a point, a story line, some action and a whole lot of sex. Where was this in that show?

I did question casting choice of Nikki, not only is she lacking in body weight, but esthetics as well! I loved Mickey and Whitney as well. They were the “realist” characters on the show, I liked the way they handled themselves and others. I didn’t understand Tracy and the scene when she is skating with her friend, ugh, was painful to watch.

The jury is out for me as well, I don’t know if I’ll remember that the show is on. Compared to the rest of the shows on Showtime, HBO, this one may not make it to my ‘must see TV’ line up. It may, somehow train wreck-like shows seem to either repel me or draw me like a moth to a flame.
