I am a photographer working on a project entitled States of Union – which is a series of color portrait photographs of same-sex families from across the United States. The photographs give credence to the validity of family life among the gay community by universalizing the very idea of family. In a country that does not yet fully recognize same-sex families legally or culturally, the visual record provided by States of Union may be one of the few formal acknowledgments of these relationships

I am currently raising money for the project on Kickstarter. With each pledge the backer gets a tangible reward – product, photograph, or experience.

The money I raise will fund the travel expenses entailed in photographing families from across the United States. The only way I can finish this project is through support of people who believe in it.

I really think my project could be a catalyst for equality – the more visible we become, the harder it will be for people to vote against us.
