“Paula Brooks” and The Lesbian Blogging Community

Readers,

If you read any lesbian blogs at all I’m sure you are all familiar that 2 lesbian bloogers have been exposed as men. I have been a part of the lesbian community of bloggers for over 10 years and it saddens me that such a thing could take place though it far from surprises me. The Paula Brooks story gets horribly scary when told via Renee over at Lesbitopia or Heather at The Wishful Writer. Paula Brooks was the creator of Lez Get Real. A site listed on TLL’s blogroll, featured as an editor’s pick, and currently reining as our best lesbian community pick. I suppose this is a lesson to us all. One that I hope doesn’t put a permanent dent on the lesbian blogging community.

I am curious on all of your thoughts on all of this. Should TLL keep the links to Lez Get Real up? Will this damage the lesbian blogging community? What are your thoughts?

Um, I’m surprised any links still exist. Yeah, they need to come down. It’s not a lesbian blog. Besides that, it sounds like the guy has a long history of unstable behavior.

I am not familiar with the blogging community these articles refer to, so I cannot speculate as to what will happen to that community.

Hi, I wanted to respond to your question about Lez Get Real http://thelesbianlifestyle.com/2011/06/14/paula-brooks-and-the-lesbian-blogging-community/

I have been following the debacle because just like the wishful writer and Rene Ganon, I had an encounter with Bill/Paula Brooks. I have e-mails to prove my fiasco and want to say the following:

Bill stated that he is giving the reigns over to Bridgette and her mother Linda. I first would like to pose this question, from the wishful writer, Rene and now I, it is safe to state that Bill is manipulative and a control freak, which all equates to a tyrant. Why would we believe that he is easily going to give the reigns over? Now I pose this question because the motto of Lez Get Real (LGR) is that it is a blog about a gay girls view (something like that), how can a transgendered, asexual, not comfortable in their own skin person and their straight mother have a view like lesbians? This is a farce that should not be promoted.

On The Bellerico Project (http://www.bilerico.com/2011/06/lez_get_real_successors_clarify_relationships_with.php?utm_source=front_page&utm_me#comments) the two that are taking over seemed to have defended Bill and one was even proud of coming on the Daily Show, which was an embarrassing joke (http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-june-15-2011/we-re-here–we-re-queer–get-newsed-to-it—ny-marriage-equality—gay-blogger-hoax?xrs=share_copy). They are only contributing to the straight world’s view of this whole fiasco, a joke. A lesbian, dramatic, joke. That is what it comes down to.

Bill is still commenting on blogs under the name of Paula Brooks and is still promoting the LGR topics and is still lying. These are not virtues that anyone and especially the gay community should embrace. Why is he doing it? It has to do with Economics. Every hit they get, meaning every ‘click’ onto their page, equals money in his straight, married, pocket. Not into a cause for our community or cancer awareness cause (his lesbian wife dying from breast cancer). If he were to say he has and/or will, why should we believe him? Again, he has not displayed any virtues to display virtuous words coming out of his mouth.

In regards to others posting that it does not matter that no one from the community is running the LGR blog as long as they are producing good content, I disagree. There are other, virtuous blogs run by people in our community that deserve our respect and our support. They are just as good or even better. I state better because most of the “news” that LGR seems to post are just copies that we can find in other news media. Bill always used “we are reporting” this isn’t a newspaper nor are their reports unique. They are just three heterosexual people that are playing journalists. Again, why promote them, follow them or believe anything they have to say?

We can all do what we want. Let’s try to support our community and also virtues that a civilized society has embraced and are responsible in upholding.

Sincerely, p.Johana

I am unsure as to what would prompt two men to run a “lesbian” blog. I was disturbed and disgusted when I heard of this. Furthermore, it makes me paranoid and fearful in a way I have never been on the internet. There is nothing we can do about this, and it serves as a reminder that you never know who you are talking to online, or if they are telling the truth. The closest you can get is Skype or Yahoo conference calls where you see the person. That is it though.

I say take them down. This will make people, especially closeted people, wary of reaching out when they may need it most. I hope they don’t lose the faith, and that they realize that we can help them if they need an ear, and that we are good people who have been in their shoes today. What those men did is unconscionable, especially in a community where many of the women already have trust issues or dislike men. Whatever the reason, it simply wasn’t ok. We know that this is no real lesbian blog. There is no reason for it to be on any lesbian blogroll.

I notice it’s still up on the blogroll list. Requesting that it be removed.

Removed. I also removed it from “The Collection” page as well.
