Please Support Lesbian Short Film
My name is Jennifer Bird and I a senior film student at Savannah College of Art and Design. Currently I’m gearing up for my senior film, and am looking for the support of the LGBT community. Please take a few moments to look at the trailer for my project. Also, here is the project’s brief description:
With my senior film (titled The Flight) I want to create progress in queer cinema. Film making is such a powerful tool that can reach people in communities where this is their only contact with the LGBT community. As a bisexual youth growing up in a small town, LGBT films helped me know I wasn’t alone. With shows like “Ellen,” “Queer as Folk,” and “Will and Grace” leaving television, now more than ever we need to evaluate the community’s presence and how it is presented.
What’s frustrating about many LGBT films, is that their stories center around a main character struggling with their sexual orientation the entire film. Although many of these movies have brought solace and closure to the LGBT community, I believe it’s time for queer films to break away from this stereotype and create progress. With my film, I want to be part of a future where in LGBT films, even though the characters are gay, it isn’t a struggle for them, it just is.
