To Be Young, Gay, and Without a Voice

to-be-young-gay-and-without-a-voice

First, I’d like to preface this by saying that I am a sixteen year old Junior in high school, and I came out in early 2007. I was raised Southern Baptist, and one of my earliest memories of homophobia within my own family was when I was around the age of 7. I remember quite [...]

Our Stories: Out in Hollywood - Cathy DeBuono

our-stories-out-in-hollywood-cathy-debuono

This is the first part of my three part interview with Cathy DeBuono.  I hope you’ll come by Hahn at Home to read the rest!
You’ve seen her – she’s hot, she’s talented, she’s extremely bright and focused, and she’s everywhere in the lesbian entertainment community these days – and now she’s here, with me, if [...]

The eternal quest for Love, Meaning and Happiness

the-eternal-quest-for-love-meaning-and-happiness

It’s 2.30am. I have to work tomorrow but can’t get to sleep. My mind is racing with the full moon, with her impersonal round face beaming into me and reading all my desires.
Soon, she will travel over the continents and reach him on the other side - the man I spent the last 7 years [...]

our-stories-series-in-honor-of-pride-month

This week, I’m running a series about women.  Yes, I know, who would have imagined?  Several very wonderful women have agreed to share their stories about relationship with me at Hahn at Home.  Every day throughout the week, a lesbian will talk about their coming out, their relationships, and why they’ve made the relationship choices [...]

The exploding horse and coming out

the-exploding-horse-and-coming-out

When my da was a boy his father ran a dude ranch catering to hunters, so he grew up with horses.  Grampa had this one horse, who’s name escapes me at the moment, that was a really good pack horse.  Well, this horse broke it’s leg in a prairie dog hole but my grampa didn’t [...]

the ocean

the-ocean

This is what it was like for me, the first time.
the ocean

when I asked
what it was
like
to know a
woman
my dear one
replied
with infinite
wisdom,
“it is like
the ocean”
…..

and I
was
rolling and,
spinning and,
holding
the air
in my
lungs
so I would
not drown

eyes shut
but
mind open
under
and
over
and over
again

waves crashed
hard
and soft
on me.
and I
rode them
to
shore
floated
blissfully free
while tethered to
her.

clarity in
disorientation
the touch of
water
on my
skin
the feel of
heat
on her
breath
the sound of
desire
in
us
and all
around.

Shades of Grey

shades-of-grey

I knew when I was growing up that wearing pants, boy’s sneakers, and a hat were comfortable to me. I knew I’d rather be swinging a bat or running a play into the end zone between the two perfectly placed Sycamore trees in Jon Tarr’s back yard. I knew that when the other girls were [...]

Her

her

It seems so long ago, yet just yesterday. I was floundering in a “marriage” to a man determined to drink himself to death, and trying to raise a teenaged daughter who was determined to put me in an early grave. To top it off, I was internally exploring, and beginning to seriously consider, [...]

Lesbian Quotes

Our very strength as lesbians lies in the fact that we are outside of patriarchy; our existence challenges its life.
